BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China Friday voiced concern over and strong dissatisfaction with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's recent remarks concerning China's Diaoyu Islands."The Chinese government and people will never accept any word or deed that includes the Diaoyu Islands within the scope of the U.S.-Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu.After her meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara in Hawaii Thursday, Clinton said the Diaoyu Islands fall within the scope of the U.S.-Japan security treaty."The Diaoyu Islands have been an integral part of Chinese territory since ancient times. China has indisputable sovereignty over the islands," Ma said.As a bilateral agreement reached during the Cold War, the U.S.-Japan security treaty should not harm the interests of third parities, including China, the spokesman said.He urged the United States and Japan to do more to boost regional peace and stability.

BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Ma Kai said Tuesday that China was willing to enhance energy dialogue and cooperation with other nations.China attaches great importance to energy-saving and environmental protection while striving to achieve a comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of energy, Ma said during a meeting with some participants of the 2010 China International Energy Forum in Beijing.The participants included Pierre Gadonneix, chairman of the World Energy Council, and Randall Gossen, president of the World Petroleum Council.Ma said China's energy consumption mainly depended on domestic supply. BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's banking regulator will strictly implement the central government's macroeconomic policies that aim to curb soaring housing prices, an official said Tuesday.Ye Yanfei, deputy head of the Statistics Department of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), said the CBRC will restrain speculative property investment and support the building of affordable housing while controlling risk.China's housing market and lending to the property sector are crucial to the national economy and people's livelihood, as well as to the stable and steady development of the nation's banking sector, Ye said at a seminar in Beijing.Ye's remarks come after the banking regulator said it would further "instruct and monitor" commercial banks' efforts to strengthen the management of lending to home-buyers.Ye's comments echo those of Zhang Ping, director of the National Development and Reform Commission, who said last Thursday in a report to China's top legislature the government will "further implement the measures meant to curb excessive gains in housing prices and resolutely restrain speculative property investment in the second half the year."Ye also said the CBRC has pushed lenders to test the impact of falling house prices, although the regulator said earlier that hypothetical scenarios examined in stress tests do not herald any change in policyHousing prices in major Chinese cities rose 10.3 percent year on year in July, slower than the 11.4 percent growth rate in June, according to official figures.On a monthly basis, housing prices in June fell 0.1 percent from May and July prices were unchanged from June.

TIANJIN, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The capacity of China's plantation industry might decline as a result of global warming, according to a report released during a new round of UN climate talks being held in north China's Tianjin Municipality from Oct. 4 to 9.If no proper measures were taken, the capacity of China's plantation industry might decline by 5 to 10 percent by 2030, characterized by a reduction in the output of wheat, rice and corn, said the report, released by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and several other organizations during the conference."The situation may get worse after 2050," the report warned.It said the soaring content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would have a "significant" impact on the output of wheat, rice and corn.Also, higher temperatures might put more farmland in China at risk from of insect damage and forest fires, the report explained.Further, some farmland might be inundated if the sea level rises as a result of global warming, it said.China has only about 7 percent of the world's arable land, while feeding more than 1.3 billion people which accounts for about 20 percent of the world' s population.
