SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After weeks of large crowds, no masks or social distancing in Ocean Beach, the City of San Diego put together a compliance team to educate people about the county’s public health order.A team of about 12 people consisting of code compliance, parking enforcement, and park rangers handed out face masks to those who didn’t have them on and asked for compliance.“There was unacceptable levels of people coming together, congregating together getting really, really close without masks or social distancing,” said Joel Day, the senior advisor for COVID Response and Recovery with the City of San Diego. “We’re asking people don’t congregate here, please wear a mask if you’re around other people, and please socially distance and so far it’s looking pretty great.”Within one hour, Day said the team handed out about 300 masks.Earlier in the day, residents noted that Veterans Plaza in Ocean Beach appeared to be less crowded. But as the sun went down, the drum circle returned, and so did the crowds. They cleared out by about 10:30 PM.Resident Tim Johnson said home and business owners have had to deal with the same scene repeatedly. Crowds are filling up the park after the farmers market.“There’s piles of trash that get left and open containers, aggressive behavior,” he said.On Tuesday, the city put up a fence to keep the crowds out, but it was quickly torn down. While Johnson said he appreciates the city’s efforts, he said more needs to be done to solve the problem.“The COVID issue is secondary to the other problem, and that other problem is that illegal, obnoxious, aggressive behavior has continued on without being enforced,” said Johnson. 1677

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman was killed and her young son was taken to the hospital Friday morning following a two-car crash on a Mira Mesa street.Late Friday night, friends at a vigil for the young mother confirmed to 10News that her name is Judy. A photo of Judy left at the vigil is attached to this article. The collision in the 7200 block of Calle Cristobal was reported just after 7 a.m., according to San Diego police.“It’s not very safe at all.” Neighbor, Lara Janda had been saying this for years, about her own driveway at Canyon Park Villas in Mira Mesa. “There are so many accidents that we have seen, heard, or we’ve almost been in a few,” Janda said. Then, on Friday morning, she saw what she had feared for years.Through the heavy fog, she found her neighbor’s car, crunched into another. The cars were mangled. There was glass everywhere. “There was no movement or anyone coming out of the vehicle,” Janda said, of her neighbor’s white Acura Legend.Police said the victim pulled out of the driveway of an apartment complex and was traveling southbound when a collision occurred with a Honda Accord traveling westbound on Calle Cristobal. The 27-year-old woman died at the scene, and police said the woman’s 4-year-old boy sustained a broken pelvis, broken ribs, a fractured skull and broken right knee. The child’s injuries are considered life-threatening. He was transported to Scripps La Jolla, then to Rady’s Children’s Hospital for treatment.Police said the boy was in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.Janda said she is saddened by what she knew was eventually going to happen. She said she reported the dangerous intersection to traffic police at least four times in the last two years, but saw no change. She believed what made it so awful this morning, was the combination of the fog, the speeding drivers, and the blind intersection.“We have high foliage here, and this large pole here, so it’s very difficult to see who is coming around this corner,“ Janda said, pointing at the road. For one family, Good Friday has become the worst day of their lives. And a neighborhood is now shaken up, hoping an accident like this, will never happen again. 2229

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A team of middle school students from Oak Valley Middle School in 4S Ranch has won a national competition in cybersecurity.Coached by Paul Johnson, a senior systems engineer at Northrop Grumman, the students learn how to catch and protect against hackers. During competitions, hackers attempt to breach networks, while the students try to identify and eject them. Called "CyberPatriot", the national championship was held in Baltimore, Maryland. The goal of the program is to get kids interested in potential careers in cybersecurity. The Poway Unified School District has CyberPatriot teams at Design 39 School and Del Norte High School, in addition to Oak Valley Middle School. 715

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Sorrento Valley startup company has a plan to bring Coronavirus testing to your door.Mobile Xpress Clinics is offering on-site testing for businesses and their employees."I don't want my employees going to an emergency room," says founder Rolf Muller. "They have to go to an area that's safe, which can be controlled and there are not a lot of unhealthy people. And that is the key."Muller and his wife, Judy Muller-Cohn, created the mobile testing lab while looking for a way to get their own employees tested. They run a cancer diagnostic company and wanted to make sure their workers had easy access to tests. The clinic is a van, fully equipped with testing supplies, PPE, and everything needed to transport the tests back to a lab for analysis.Muller says they can set up within 15 minutes in a parking lot, and it only takes about 3 minutes per person to complete the test. Results come back within 24 hours."We can bring it to schools. We can bring it to church congregations. We can bring it to supermarkets. We can bring it to every single company where people work together," he says."If we control communities, the people who interact with each other all day long, then we can control the virus outbreak."Muller says companies should test their employees every two weeks. The cost of bringing a Mobile Xpress Clinic will vary depending on how many people are being tested, and how often the company books their services. 1458
