"The United States remains committed to the values of democracy, rule of law, freedom of expression, and prosperity in Tanzania."Quintal, the Africa program coordinator at the Committee to Protect Journalists, and Mumo, the organization's sub-Saharan Africa representative, were in Tanzania for a reporting mission, according to a news release. They were detained on Wednesday in their hotel room in Dar es Salaam by "officers who identified themselves as working with the Tanzanian immigration authority." The officials took their passports and the journalists were taken to an unknown location, the release said."We are concerned for the safety of our colleagues Angela Quintal and Muthoki Mumo, who were detained while legally visiting Tanzania," Committee to Protect Journalists executive director Joel Simon said.  A Girl Scout leader in Beaverton, Oregon was at the right place at the right time.Diane Bauer said she was at a Fred Meyer store on Wednesday when her teenage daughter Charlotte noticed a mother in distress at few aisles over.Bauer said her daughter was pointing to a baby a mother was holding – and realized the 5-week-old infant was not breathing.That's when the CPR-certified Girl Scout leader dropped everything and ran over to help.Bauer said she took the baby, told the cashier to call 911, and gave the newborn CPR.“The only room that was available was the little check writing stand,” said Bauer. “Those breaths started to go in and I continued until he came to, and in the meantime the mom was calling 911.”Soon, Bauer said she felt the baby's little heartbeat. After a few more breaths, the baby was alert and breathing on his own again.“Had the mom hold his hand, stroked his face and he kind of turned and nuzzled towards her like he was hungry,” said Bauer.Bauer said she and her daughter stayed until paramedics arrived.She credits her daughter for recognizing that the baby had stopped breathing.Bauer said she had just finished the CPR recertification at her job last month. 1204

Kelly is a fresh face in the teaching world with only four years on the job, but is already making a tremendous impact in his students' lives. Kelly uses a mix of positive reinforcement and entertainment to keep his students engaged in their eighth-grade math class and eager to learn. "I do talk like a talk show host," Christopher Kelly said. "I think it's kinda fun, and I think it keeps them more engaged that way they pay attention more." Kelly became a teacher to create a positive and secure space for kids to learn and grow. "I think that everybody in this world that has been successful has had somebody help them along the way," Kelly said. "I just want to be able to help some people who maybe haven't had that yet." Kelly's attentiveness toward his students is one of the reasons eighth-grader Olivia Toledo wanted to recognize him for his hard work. "When I need help, I know that I can go to him, and he will help me until I get it," Toledo said." He keeps us engaged by telling us to just keep going and never give up." His students and staff say Kelly is a teacher who is making a difference in his students' lives. "When you get recognized in a big way like this, it feels really good; it makes you feel really special," Kelly said.
