Doctors are seeing more children with an illness that can look a lot like the flu or cold. It's known as RSV. It stands for respiratory syncytial virus. It comes with the typical runny nose, cough and congestion we see in the wintertime. Adults can usually get over RSV without a problem. But it can be a lot more severe for young children.“From a newborn to a 3- or 4-year-aged child, and they go to a daycare or they're exposed to other kids who have a runny nose, cough or congestion. These kids can fall sicker much more, and will have more respiratory distress and dehydration than kids who are older,” says Dr. Purva Grover with Cleveland Clinic. Respiratory distress and dehydration are what makes RSV different from the typical cold. Doctors say some of the signs include shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. Parents may be able to tell this is happening in a child if they're heavily breathing from both their nose and chest, as well as grunting noises. It's important that families see a doctor before this becomes respiratory failure. There isn't a vaccine specifically for RSV. But some doctors say they've been able to treat it with other vaccines. “There is a vaccine which is actually an antibody treatment that we give to the most vulnerable premature infants, those that are in their first year of life and were born very prematurely,” says Dr. James Gaensbauer, a pediatrics and infectious disease specialist at Denver Health. “But it's not an ideal thing, you have to give a shot every month for every five months that is typically the season.” Doctors can also do other things to treat the symptoms, like giving kids extra oxygen.RSV usually lasts about two weeks. 1707
Bill Chavez has always been fascinated with big trucks. He comes from a long line of truckers, which is one of the reasons he’s devoted his life for 39 years to the profession. To most people, Chavez’s truck looks like any traditional semi. However, it’s not ordinary, because with a push of a button, it can drive itself. “What we’re trying to do is create the world’s safest self-driving trucks,” says Chuck Price, the chief product officer of TuSimple, the company behind the self-driving semis. TuSimple is currently operating 15 self-driving semis, and Price says by June, they'll have three times that number. “This is actually a laser radar unit; we call it lidar, built into the mirror. This gives us a close-in view,” Price describes. “Then, we have cameras along the top of the vehicle that show us…much further away.” TuSimple’s trucks are already in the southwest part of the country, on interstates across the region. "Our systems see farther, track more objects and respond faster than a human can operate," Price says. Right now, a human must be in the trucks at all times as back-up protocol, but the company says a fully self-driving semi could happen by 2020. The company says when that day comes, it will alleviate one of the industry's biggest problems.Tony Bradley, with the Arizona Trucking Association, says nationwide they're currently 50,000 drivers short. "This is the worst shortage we've seen in the history of trucking,” Bradley stresses. Bradley says 15 years from now, the shortage could be as high as 200,000, thanks to the large number of drivers approaching retirement age. "It's a job that is frankly, not very glamorous," Bradley says. However, the job continues to be appealing to Chavez. "It's just very enjoyable to be out there on the road and being your own boss," Chavez says. He knows that a time may come where drivers might be replaced by this technology. However, he's OK with that idea and says roads will be safer for everyone. "This is a system that's gonna help,” he says. “Either way, it’s helping," Chavez says.However, he says that day is much further down the road. 2133

DENVER, Co. – The checkout line is now part of the front line of the coronavirus pandemic. Because of the great risk millions of workers in grocery stores and essential businesses were forced into by going to work each day, many of these workers received hazard pay or bonuses for several weeks. Now, many of the big retailers are stopping the pay hikes as states reopen, leaving workers asking: Why did the hazard pay end when the hazard is far from over? “These workers didn’t sign up to die,” said Kim Cordova, the President of the UFCW Local 7 union in Denver.Lisa Harris has been a cashier at a Kroger in Virginia for 13 years. She said working through this pandemic has been stressful. “We see at least 300 people per day,” Harris said. With the increased risk to employees, many grocery stores and retail giants like Kroger, Amazon, and Target offered a per hour wage increase, calling it “Hero Pay.” For King Soopers butcher Kevin Smith, the extra two dollars an hour meant peace of mind. “My wife lost her job because of the COVID, and that pay was really helping out, it meant a lot to me,” said Smith. 1129
The Cleveland Indians are moving forward in the process to examine and possibly change the team name and will be meeting with Native American leaders to help determine the best path forward.Indians owner Paul Dolan announced Thursday that as part of the organization's continuous efforts to discuss the team name, there have been productive meetings earlier this week with manager Terry Francona and numerous players to discuss the name, as well as social justice and racial equality issues.To continue examining the best path forward, the organization said it will be engaging with Native American leaders to “better understand their perspectives,” in regards to the team name.The organization will also hold discussions with civic leaders and said it will continue to listen to the opinions and perspectives of players, fans, partners and employees.“We feel a real sense of urgency to discuss these perspectives with key stakeholders while also taking the time needed to ensure those conversations are inclusive and meaningful,” Dolan said. “We will continue to share periodic updates as we make progress. In the meantime, we are excited for our team to return to the field to continue our pursuit of a World Series Championship.”Dolan said that the organization appreciates the “passionate response” it has received over the last few weeks since announcing it would be discussing a possible name change. HOUSTON, Texas – Fifty years ago, when the first man walked on the moon, most of the country was glued to a television set, watching in awe. It was a historic and captivating moment, made possible by people like Jerry Woodfill. “I, at Johnson Space Center in Houston, am the last engineer that worked directly on the Apollo mission to the moon,” said Woodfill. “I was the alarm system engineer.” There was only one alarm system engineer for the Apollo 11 mission. “John Kennedy put it like this, when he spoke before Congress on May 25, 1961, ‘we send a man to the moon and we want him to return home safely to the Earth,’” Woodfill said. “Now the guy that was responsible, I think, for returning him safely, that was my assignment.” It was a job well done, because the three astronauts that went to the moon for the first time, all made it back safely. Jerry Woodfill would go on after Apollo 11 to be a part of the Apollo 13 mission and continued to work for NASA for more than five decades. In fact, at 76 he is still working at the Johnson Space Center in Houston with no plan on retiring anytime soon. Part of the reason he wants to stick around at NASA is because of a seemingly new resurgence of excitement about space and there’s a new mission to go back to the moon. “In certain areas [going back to space this time] it’s more exciting,” said Woodfill. “Our technology level has so much advanced.” With better technology now, and more of an understanding of space, Woodfill, knows it is going to be easier to get a man and woman to the moon and the possibilities are greater. This time, the plan is stay on the moon longer, NASA is planning to have a satellite space center called Gateway orbit the moon. Astronauts could live on Gateway and go back and forth to the moon’s surface. There, this time around, astronauts will focus on a part of the moon’s surface where there are craters. In those craters, satellite imaging shows there is ice water. Astronauts hope to find that water, and other elements that could lead to a possible fuel source to head to Mars. Woodfill, who was a part of the first mission to the moon, hopes to still be at NASA for the first manned mission to Mars. “There’s something inside of me that says we can come up with something. That could make it doable. You know it the next 10 years. Something could happen,” he said. If it doesn’t happen while the Apollo mission alarm engineer is still around, he hopes the generation that gets to see a man on Mars will be as excited about it as he would be. “I thank the Lord that I was able to work for NASA and be involved in aerospace, and not just aerospace but all the technology that contributed to doing the things we’ve done,” said Woodfill. “There are 30,000 things from a pacemaker in your heart to an advanced hearing aid that came because we went to the moon.”There are likely to be thousands of more technological advances on earth as a result of NASA heading back to the moon again. 2999
