A 47-year-old former model involved in a custody dispute plunged to her death from a Manhattan hotel Friday, according to three law enforcement sources.New York police found the bodies of Stephanie Nicolai and her 7-year-old son, Vincent, on a second-floor balcony of the Gotham Hotel, where the two were guests, police said.The bodies were discovered about 8:15 a.m. Friday after a 911 call about an unconscious woman and child at the 25-story boutique hotel on East 46th Street, according to police.Police believe Nicolai's death was a suicide, the law enforcement sources said. "I was not only her lawyer but her friend. I could tell something was wrong. ... I just didn't know what."Felder, who said he hadn't heard from Nicolai in two or three months, said she wanted to travel to Spain with her son."I said in the middle of a divorce case, you just can't do that," he said.But the lawyer who'd represented her for about a month said he'd talked with her extensively, even on the night before she died, and "there was no indication whatsoever" that she might take her own life."We were talking about the broad strategies for her divorce," attorney Daniel Kron told CNN Saturday.Kron, who referred to his client as Stephanie Adams, said "there's a certain amount of stress" in divorce proceedings but "she seemed to be dealing with them quite well.""She was in my office almost every day," he said. (KGTV) — Whale watchers off the coast of Dana Point were recently treated to the sighting of a lifetime.A rare gray orca calf was spotted swimming in a pod of whales by a pilot, before the message was relayed to Capt. Todd Mansur of Dana Wharf Whale Watching.Mansur said the sighting by itself was a rare occasion on its own."The feeling you get when you get to see, not only orcas, but then to see that baby and how it stood out so much," Mansur recalls. "I've been doing this for longer than most people have been alive. And I have had killer whale encounters in Southern California less than 10 times."The gray orca is one of two that have recently been documented by scientists. The other was seen off the coast of British Columbia."There were people on the boat that were crying. That's how excited they were," Mansur said.Mansur says there's no way to know what gives the rare orca its gray color. It could be a gene or a disease."Unless we actually collect a DNA sample from all of them and scientifically match things up," Mansur said.
