SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old has been arrested after being shot by a store clerk he was trying to rob, San Diego Police say.According to police, Hector Lopez-Gastelum entered the La Michoacana store on the 700 block of Vesta Street around 10:40 a.m. on October 18 demanding cash. Police say Lopez-Gastelum was armed with a handgun.After the clerk handed over the cash, the suspect reportedly demanded that a second register be opened.“While Lopez-Gastelum was still in the store, the clerk shot him twice in the torso with his own handgun, which is legally owned,” police said.The clerk then retrieved Lopez-Gastelum’s handgun and called 911. The suspect was taken to a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A burglary victim is hoping doorbell camera video will help track down some thieves who hunt down garage remotes before raiding the garage. Ring video shows a man on his stomach, around 2 a.m. Saturday, in Curtis Both's driveway off Morena Boulevard. In his hand is Both's garage door opener."My car was ransacked. The remote was in the center console," said Both.The man in the video likely pushed the button for the garage, just slightly. "He wanted to peer in to see what was there," said Both.Moments later, the garage door is heard opening. The man then walks in, before eventually leaving. About two hours later, that man is back with a friend. A camera mounted inside the garage shows them collecting items from the garage."Horrible. A complete violation," said Both.Airsoft gear, ski equipment, power tools, a pricey road bike were among the items that would vanish.A week earlier, about a mile away, a man with a similar backpack and high socks was recorded putting down the backpack and getting on his knees to shine a flashlight at a garage door. Soon after, he's seen heading across the street. That light inside Matt Friend's SUV comes on. Tucked in the door panel is the garage remote. Eventually, Friend's garage door open is seen opening."We were sleeping inside, with two sons in the other room, two- and three-year-old boys and my wife is pregnant so it's disheartening to think somebody is on our premise without us knowing," said Friend.The thief would get away with several items, including friend's ,000 Intense mountain bike."Some of the violation feels like they're just coming to our neighborhood and treating it like a department store, and they have no fear," said Both.Both victims say they almost always lock their car doors and aren't sure how the thief broke into their vehicles. 1840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 65-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Serra Mesa on Christmas eve. According to police, the incident happened just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of Ruffin Road and Village Glen Drive near the Village Glen Apartments. Police say the woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a 16-year-old driver. The woman was rushed to the hospital with major injuries. The teen remained at the scene after the crash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A group of ladies in the North County are part of a nonprofit group that has focused on philanthropic projects for 20 years. Since April, however, six of the women in the group have been on a new mission. "We all go in separate cars and are in a horseshoe line, and someone will ring the doorbell. When the person answers then we're in good shape to sing, ask them how they're doing and tell them we love them and care about them."The group, who call themselves Masquerade Brigade, sing to those who are elderly and vulnerable to COVID-19 on their birthdays. "Just the human connection means a lot to them and it makes them feel like they're not forgotten," said Sophia Bouvier, a member of the singing group.The individuals they sing to are people who they volunteered with before we entered a COVID world."They've texted us after, 'I've been visited by the Masquerade Brigade. You can't believe how uplifting it is to see their faces and listen to their smiles as they sing,'" described Bouvier.Their gift of singing, small gifts, and presence isn't something you can put a price tag on they said, "Kindness is free and it takes so little to make a big difference."The group is out singing every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., and have visited over 25 people since April. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver apparently lost control of his SUV and crash landed on the roof of a University City home early Tuesday morning.The crash happened at around 1:15 a.m. in the 3000 block of Pennant Way, according to San Diego police.Bill Crane told ABC 10News that after he heard a loud crash, he came out of his home and saw the male driver in his yard and the Jeep Cherokee Laredo on top of his next-door neighbor’s house."I was asleep at the time and I heard this crash, and I came out and I looked around and saw a guy kind of wandering near behind me, by what's left of the tree, and he was just kind of stumbling and I couldn't figure out what the hell that was. Because you usually don't think of a car being on someone's roof. So, when I finally figured that out, I went in to get my phone, and came back out and called 911, and he was gone,” Crane said.Crane called 911 to report the crash, and he then called the woman who lives in the house. However, Crane said the woman initially didn’t believe her.Crane added, "I called her twice and she said, 'What, a car on my roof? I'm not going out there, I can't believe that.’ It is pretty unbelievable.”ABC 10News learned the woman was asleep at the time and never heard the crash. She believes the SUV was coming down Pennant Way, somehow veered on a resident’s front lawn and launched onto her garage.A towing service used a crane to remove the Jeep from the roof of the home’s garage.There is no word on how much damage the home sustained, but inspectors said the house was structurally sound despite the wreck.No one was hurt in the crash.As of late Tuesday morning, police have not tracked down the SUV's driver. 1692
