SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A proposal to add a fenced-in, off-leash dog park and walking trails at Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Park was vetted Thursday by the San Diego City Council's Environment Committee, which unanimously voted to send to the full council.The committee considered two options for an amendment to the Mission Bay Park Master Plan, which guides future development of the area. Either option would update Fiesta Island, a partially undeveloped area of the park, by adding new amenities and park area to the island's southwest section.The committee ultimately chose the plan dubbed "option B," which reserves much of the island's southwest area for a fenced-in, off-leash dog park and also includes parking areas and walking trails.Option A would have allocated much of the southwest area for a fenced- in, off-leash dog park but would have also included a non-motorized boat launching area along the water, a road extension, larger parking facilities and a designated swimming beach for residents.The Fiesta Island amendment to the Mission Bay Park Master Plan has been in development for roughly two years. Committee attendees, including members of the Fiesta Island Dog Owners group, overwhelmingly stated their support for option B.City Councilman Scott Sherman said his office received roughly 30 calls and more than 300 emails in support of option B, due in part of members of FIDO posting his office's contact information. City Councilwoman Vivian Moreno also expressed appreciation for the public support for option B, particularly among dog owners."I am confident that city staff will be able to find a permanent location for non-motorized personal watercraft in other locations in Mission Bay Park," Moreno said. "But I don't think we need to destroy the experience of thousands and thousands and thousands of dog owners who use Fiesta Island right now in order to do so."Option B also received support from former City Council members Donna Frye, Sherri Lightner and Lorie Zapf."It's important to preserve as much open space as possible," City Councilwoman Barbara Bry said of option B. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A new indictment unsealed Thursday against the owner/operators of San Diego-based pornographic website GirlsDoPorn.com alleges that co-owner Michael James Pratt -- who remains on the lam on federal sex trafficking charges -- also produced pornographic content involving a 16-year- old girl. Pratt was charged in a complaint last month along with three others with sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion for allegedly filming victims under the guise of distributing the videos only to private clients, then disseminating the videos online without the victims' knowledge or consent. The new indictment adds two additional defendants and charges of production of child pornography and sex trafficking of a minor against Pratt alone, with the incidents allegedly occurring in September 2012. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, numerous young women who initially responded to ads for modeling jobs were allegedly deceived by the defendants to appear in adult films. Once the victims learned the work involved pornography, the defendants allegedly told them the videos would be distributed to private clients -- usually living overseas -- and not disseminated on the internet. To help convince the women to participate, reference women like Nored were allegedly hired to lie to the women and claim they had also filmed pornographic videos for the defendants, which were never posted on the internet. The defendants are also currently involved in a San Diego civil trial involving a lawsuit filed by 22 women who appeared in videos on the site. The allegations in that trial -- which began in mid-August -- mirror the new federal charges. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - District Attorney Summer Stephan warned San Diegans, especially senior citizens, to beware of a scam in which callers are pretending to be from the Social Security Administration in an attempt to obtain Social Security numbers for financial crimes.There are multiple versions of the rip-off, Stephan said.In some cases, the caller may say a person's Social Security number has been linked to a crime and has been blocked, but that for a fee it can be reinstated. The caller then asks the victim to verify the Social Security number.Another variation involves the caller saying that a person's Social Security number has been used to apply for multiple credit cards, which could cause the person to lose Social Security benefits. Or the caller may say that acause the person to lose Social Security benefits. Or the caller may say that a person's bank account is on the verge of being seized and the victim should withdraw all cash from the account."All of these are scams," Stephan warned. "Do not provide your Social Security number or banking information to any caller, even if the caller ID shows Social Security's 1-800 number. Instead, hang up and call Social Security to verify. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who jumped onstage during a Taylor Swift concert at Petco Park in 2015 and was tackled by members of her security team -- seriously injuring one of them -- is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday for allegedly beating a man to death in the Midway District earlier this month. Christian Ewing, 29, was arrested last Friday for a parole violation and was re-arrested Monday on suspicion of murder in the death of 57-year-old Gregory Freeman. Freeman was found Dec. 5 in the 3900 block of Rosecrans Street near the Interstate 5 overpass, police said. Freeman, who had trauma to his upper body, was taken to a hospital but died four days later. One witness told police that Freeman was on the ground when a man began to hit him with some sort of object. The attacker then fled, said San Diego police Lt. Anthony Dupree. More than three years ago, Ewing sneaked into Swift's concert and jumped onstage while she was performing. He was tackled by security guards, one of whom suffered a broken rib. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Hundreds of thousands of San Diegans are expected to cast their ballots in person today, Election Day, with over 1 million ballots already received.The San Diego County Registrar of Voters said more than 1.1 million ballots have been received and nearly 60,000 residents have voted early in-person as of Monday, well more than double when compared to this point in the 2016 presidential election.Of the 1.95 million registered voters in the county, 1,114,627 had already turned in their ballots as of election eve.
