BEIJING,July 11 (Xinhua) -- China issued a new anti-corruption regulation Sunday to require officials to report changes in their marital status, the whereabouts of their spouses and children if they have moved abroad, personal incomes, housing as well as their family' s investments. The new regulation was issued by the General Office of China's State Council and the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee. The regulation defines "officials" as those leaders holding official ranks of and above county level in government agencies, democratic parties, public institutions, state owned enterprises and state holding enterprises. The new regulation requires officials to report changes in their marital status and the location of their spouses and children if they have moved abroad, within 30 days after such a change takes place.Specifically, officials should report their ownership of passports or visas and their children's marital status if they are married to foreigners or residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.Officials should also report any businesses their spouses and children are involved in, both within China and abroad. The new regulation also requires officials to report their ownership of property, including property in their spouses' or children's names, their family's investment in financial assets and in enterprises.According to the regulation, if officials fail to report honestly or in a timely fashion, they would face punishment to various degrees, even as harsh as removal of official ranks. The regulation also ordered party organizations at all levels to strengthen management and supervision over officials to guarantee the implementation of the regulation. This regulation is considered an important measure to ensure strict self-discipline for Party and government officials and to improve the intra-Party supervision system.

BEIJING, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of middle school students from Nanjing City, east China's Jiangsu Province, came to the Memorial Hall of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Beijing Tuesday to mourn martyrs killed in the war."We came here to keep the past firmly in mind and cherish the present peace," said a student from the Second Foreign Language School of Nanjing.Temperatures in most parts of Beijing had risen to more than 39 degrees centigrade but even so the memorial hall was crowded with visitors from all over the country. The full-scale anti-aggression war started on July 7, 1937, when the Imperial Japanese Army bombarded the town of Wanping in suburban Beijing and advanced on the Lugou Bridge. The No. 29 Nationalists Corps fought hard to resist the siege, marking the official start of an eight-year resistance war.The Chinese resistance played a decisive role in inflicting heavy casualties on the Japanese. The Chinese people paid dearly for the victory, with an estimated 35 million casualties, including military and civilian, dead and wounded. The memorial has received more than 15 million visitors since it opened in 1987, said Li Zongyuan, deputy curator of the memorial hall.

BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Profits at Chinese industrial enterprises in 24 regions climbed 71.8 percent year on year to 1.61 trillion yuan (237.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the first six months, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Wednesday. The growth rate was 11.2 percentage points lower than that in the first five months, the NBS said in a statement.Combined revenues for the enterprises totaled 25.9 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, up 36.5 percent from a year earlier - a growth rate 2.4 percentage points lower than in the January-to-May period. Most of the 39 major industries posted year-on-year profit growth. The 24 regions comprise all of the Chinese mainland provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions except the Inner Mongolia and Tibet autonomous regions; Hunan, Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan provinces; and Chongqing.China's industrial value-added output expanded 17.6 percent year on year in the first half of the year. But month-on-month growth began to slow in March, with June's growth at 13.7 percent year on year.

BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police have launched crackdowns all over China to curb online soccer gambling as the 2010 World Cup kicks off in South Africa.More than 100 people have been detained for participating in online soccer gambling with more than 10 billion yuan (1.47 billion U.S. dollars) in funds involved in one case in Yuyao City, east China's Zhejiang Province, said Dong Xiaowei, deputy chief of the provincial public security bureau.More than 70 gambling groups have been cracked for online soccer gambling this year with more than 300 arrested, he said.Similar cases have been uncovered in Beijing, Chongqing, Shaanxi, Fujian and Shandong. There are about 2,000 Chinese and offshore websites for soccer gambling in China, and the membership of some websites amounts to one million, according to Public Security Ministry data.Gambling is prohibited on the Chinese mainland by law.

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security has vowed to crack down on domestic and foreign online gambling organizations as a number of football gambling web sites were discovered online following the start of the World Cup in South Africa."Currently, police departments at all levels should focus on the World Cup and keep close watch on domestic and foreign online gambling groups. Dig deep for the violators behind them, seize evidence and give a hard blow to online football gambling," urged vice minister Huang Ming at a meeting Tuesday.Figures from the ministry show that Chinese police shut down 1,461 foreign gambling web sites in less than one week after the start of the 2010 World Cup."Gambling, drugs and prostitution are still rampant in some areas, causing civilians to issue strong complaints... In some places, these wrongdoings have even been conducted in board daylight." Huang added.According to Huang, law enforcement agencies at all levels will focus on entertainment venues that host prostitution, obscene performances, group gambling and drug trafficking, and violators will be severely punished. The ministry also ordered law enforcement agencies to strictly monitor local police and punish those who are slack in stopping these illegal activities in their own regions. Also at the meeting, the ministry announced a nationwide campaign on the control of guns, scheduled to end this September, in a bid to prevent gun-related crimes.
