Country music star and philanthropist Dolly Parton is being credited for saving the life of a young co-star while filming her latest Christmas movie."We were on set, and I was at the hot chocolate station, and they said 'Go back to your beginning positions,'" Talia Hill, age 9, said in an interview with Inside Edition. "So, there is a vehicle moving, and I was walking, and then somebody grabbed me and pulled me back and I looked up and it was Dolly Parton."Hill said she was in shock.“And she said ‘"Well, I am an angel, you know,’” a reference to Parton’s role in the Netflix film “Christmas on the Square.”“She hugged me and shook me and said, 'I saved your life!'" Consumers are already spending big this holiday season, particularly online.With Black Friday right around the corner and the COVID-19 pandemic keeping shoppers online, consumers spent nearly billion while online shopping between Nov. 1 and Nov. 10, according to Check Point Security Software.But along with that increase in online shopping, Check Point also says it has seen a massive uptick in scammers looking to take advantage.In the last month alone, the company says malicious shopping emails have jumped from 1 in every 11,000 to one in every 1,000."They're using some of those again less sensational but very frequent terms like 'cheap' and 'sale' and 'percentage off' and 'special offers' to attract folks to click on some of these unsolicited emails," Mark Ostrowski of Check Point Software said.Scammers are using convincing lookalike emails to conduct phishing campaigns in the U.S. and abroad. One malicious email mimicked an ad for a Pandora jewelry that looked legitimate — outside of a misspelling of "Pandora."Ostrowski says shoppers should pay attention to grammar and spelling mistakes in marketing emails — they could be a red flag for scams. He also recommends mousing over hyperlinks before clicking on them to double-check where they're sending you.Ostrowski also says to be aware of seemingly legitimate emails that request personal information or passwords."I can't tell you how many times that I get an email — every single week — about how I need a password to be reset that I never asked to be reset," he said. "The one I've been getting the most lately is open enrollment. I get an email for open enrollment for healthcare every week, and I know that we're not doing that for at least another month."The Better Business Bureau also says it has seen a rise in online shopping scams, and more than 80% of those who fall victim to them lose money. Many of those scams aren't arriving as emails but are coming up in Google searches and social media posts. The BBB recommends taking time to research a website before deciding to make a purchase.Finally, experts recommend setting strong passwords for online accounts. Nordpass reports that hackers can easily steal information from accounts protected by easy-to-guess passwords, like 123456. Coca-Cola will soon be giving Japanese consumers a new kind of buzz.In a departure from its traditional soda business, Coke plans to launch an alcoholic drink in Japan this year. It's trying to get in on the growing market for "chu-hi" -- canned, flavored drinks typically made with sparkling water and shochu, a Japanese spirit distilled from grains.The new drink is a "highly Japan-specific approach given the complexity and richness" of Coke's range of products in the country, Coke spokesperson Yohko Okabe told CNN on Wednesday.The company declined to give further details on the plans, but in a recent blog post, the president of Coca-Cola Japan said the drink would be "unique" in Coke's history."We haven't experimented in the low alcohol category before," Jorge Gardu?o said in the post.The storied soft drinks company is set to enter a crowded market. Big Japanese beverage makers like Kirin and Suntory already produce popular "chu-hi" drinks.Brewing up an alcoholic beverage is just Coke's latest Japanese experiment.The country is one of the company's most competitive and fast changing markets. It says it launches about 100 new products there every year.Other big global brands have tried unusual things to cater to Japanese consumers' palates. Nestlé opened a factory last year in Japan to meet the growing demand for weirdly flavored KitKat bars.Coke has dabbled in alcohol in the past, buying wine businesses in the US in the 1970s. CORONADO (KGTV) — New rules go into effect on Thursday, August 16, restricting where people can and can't use e-cigarettes in Coronado.The City Council passed an ordinance on July 17 to make the popular devices subject to the same rules as regular cigarettes, banning their use in many public places.According to the new law, e-cigarettes will no longer be allowed in the following unenclosed areas:1. All public property including, but not limited to, streets, highways, alleys, rights-of-way, parkways, sidewalks, parking lots and pathways; 2. Outdoor public places; 3. Outdoor recreational areas; 4. Outdoor service areas; 5. Outdoor dining areas.An exception has been made for the Municipal Golf Course, where smoking is also allowed.Anyone caught breaking the new rule could be subject to a 0 fine. The city will put up new signs to let people know of the change.Language in the City Council proposition showed that city leaders feared vaping devices and the smoke from them could be dangerous to the public health. They also wanted to eliminate confusion by having different rules for different kinds of smoking.E-cigarette advocates say bans like these are counter-productive.The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association sent a statement to 10News that reads, in part, "Smoking laws that include a ban on vaping send the inaccurate and misleading message that e-cigarettes are just as harmful as smoking. To date, there is no credible scientific evidence to support this claim. CINCINNATI, Ohio — A settlement has been reached after a police officer used a Taser on an 11-year-old girl while working an off-duty detail at a Kroger in Southwest Ohio.The City of Cincinnati and Kroger have agreed to pay the family of Donesha Gowdy 0,000 to settle the claim of excessive force, according to a news release from family attorney Al Gerhardstein.Donesha had been shoplifting from the Kroger on Aug. 6 when Officer Kevin Brown, who was on security duty, ordered her to stop. She didn't. The officer fired his Taser as she walked away. One probe struck her at the base of her spine; the other hit between her shoulder blades.The incident prompted an apology from Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and a promise from Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman to review Cincinnati Police Department’s protocol on Tasers.Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot K. Isaac promised “a very thorough review” of Brown's actions, as well as the department’s use-of-force policies as they pertain to juvenile suspects. He said he's "extremely concerned when force is used by one of our officers on a child of this age."Smitherman, along with the girl's mother, also say the policy needs to change. The settlement did not include plans to change police department policy, and it must be approved by probate court.Donesha wrote this apology to Kroger: “I Donesha Gowdy is writing this letter to apologize to the Kroger company … to say I’m sorry for stealing from the store in will not do it again.”WCPO television station in Cincinnati has reached out to the City of Cincinnati and Kroger for comment. 1629
