SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Fast-moving floodwaters swept a vehicle away in Santa Clarita Thursday as what is being called an “atmospheric river” set up over the area, according to KABC. The incident happened along Road Runner Road, per tweets from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarity Valley station.Due to the flooding the road was shut down. The driver was able to make it out of the vehicle safely thanks to good Samaritans.The man's car was totaled, but before he even had a chance to dry off, a neighbor bought him a replacement SUV, KABC reported.  598

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (KGTV) - An animal rights group is suing an organization purporting to be an animal rescue for allegedly violating a new California law.ALDF claims that Bark Adoptions, registered to an address in Menifee, Calif. has been supplying dogs to pet stores in “an unlawful scheme to sell and launder puppy mill puppies .”They claim it violates AB 485, a California law that was enacted on January 1 of 2019, sometimes referred to as the “Puppy Mill Ban.”The law prohibits pet stores from selling animals from breeders, instead, only allowing stores to sell dogs from shelters or rescue groups.The law specifically states that a “rescue group” must have tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS. Furthermore, it must be in a “cooperative agreement with at least one private or public shelter.”In February, 10News reported that Bark Adoptions had been supplying dogs to stores in San Diego County and Riverside County. Undercover video from the animal rights group, Companion Animal Protection Society, showed young, apparently purebred and designer puppies being sold for thousands of dollars.10News obtained interstate certificates of veterinary inspection that showed Bark Adoptions was getting the 8-10 week old puppies shipped from another purported rescue in Iowa, called Rescue Pets Iowa.The investigation by ALDF followed the same trail and alleged the defendants conveyed “those puppies to pet stores for profit.”“This is what we’re alleging in our lawsuit, that it amounts to nothing short of a puppy laundering operation that we’re gonna try to stop with a court order,” said Christopher Berry, a staff attorney with ALDF.10News reached out to Lara Abuzeid, an attorney for Bark Adoptions, but did not receive any comment on the lawsuit. 1788

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Saudi government recruited two Twitter employees to get personal account information of their critics, prosecutors said Wednesday.A complaint unsealed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco detailed a coordinated effort by Saudi government officials to recruit employees at the social media giant to look up the private data of thousands of Twitter accounts.The accounts included those of a popular critic of the government with more than 1 million followers and a news personality.It also alleged that the employees — whose jobs did not require access to Twitter users' private information — were rewarded with a designer watch and tens of thousands of dollars funneled into secret bank accounts. They were charged with acting as agents of Saudi Arabia without registering with the U.S. government.The Saudi government had no immediate comment through its embassy in Washington.Twitter acknowledged that it cooperated in the investigation and said in a statement that it restricts access to sensitive account information "to a limited group of trained and vetted employees.""We understand the incredible risks faced by many who use Twitter to share their perspectives with the world and to hold those in power accountable," the statement said. "We have tools in place to protect their privacy and their ability to do their vital work."Ahmad Abouammo, who left his job as the media partnership manager for Twitter's Middle East region in 2015, was also charged with falsifying documents and making false statements to obstruct FBI investigators — offenses that carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison if convicted.At his appearance in Seattle federal court Wednesday, Abouammo was ordered to remain in custody pending a detention hearing set for Friday.His lawyer, Christopher Black, declined to comment, as did Abouammo's wife, who did not give her name.Investigators alleged that a Saudi citizen working as a social media adviser for the Saudi royal family recruited Twitter engineer Ali Alzabarah. The two met in Washington. D.C., around the same time the adviser, Ahmed Almutairi, met with someone named in the complaint as Royal Family Member 1."Within one week of returning to San Francisco, Alzabarah began to access without authorization private data of Twitter users en masse," the complaint said.The effort included the user data of over 6,000 Twitter users, including at least 33 usernames for which Saudi Arabian law enforcement had submitted emergency disclosure requests to Twitter, investigators said.After being confronted by his supervisors at Twitter, Alzabarah acknowledged accessing user data and said he did it out of curiosity, authorities said.Alzabarah was placed on administrative leave, his work-owned laptop was seized, and he was escorted out of the office. San Ysidro, CA (KGTV)- The border wait times to cross into the United States are significantly shorter Tuesday.According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection App, the wait times at the border in San Ysidro averaged around an hour depending on the time of day.In the last few days, border crossers reported waiting up to ten hours to cross into the U.S."A lot of people going to the border five, six hours before their work entry, it's been crazy," said Jose Montanez.Montanez is a married father of two. He lives in Tijuana, but crosses to work as a manager at a taco factory. He said the lines this weekend were especially bad, even in the pedestrian lanes."Four hours, five hours waiting in line, standing in line, you get tired," said Montanez.Last Friday, CBP began "adjusting operations" to focus on essential travel. The goal is to slow the spread of COVID-19.A spokesman with CBP sent 10News a statement, that reads in part:"According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a recent survey of more than 100,000 travelers on the southwest border found that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents is for purposes that are not deemed essential. To respond to the ongoing public health crisis and protect local southwest border communities, CBP is taking measures to discourage non-essential travel to and from Mexico to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. "Fewer lanes and increased secondary inspections led to massive delays."If they have to ask more questions and isolate people from one another so the essential workers can go and cross faster, that would be perfect," said Montanez.Instead, innocent workers are feeling the impact the most."Those that are crossing right now are doing so cause they really need to and they're going to continue crossing," said Paola Avila, of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.Restrictions have been in place at the border since March. Avila said the new protocol now doesn't make sense, especially since San Diego County is off the state's COVID-19 monitoring list."Non-essential businesses are going to start reopening. More businesses are going to start reopening, so you're going to have a greater workforce that's going to have to facilitate those businesses reopening, but now you're going to have these restrictions. It's not in sync with the rest of our procedures and regulations and restrictions," said Avila.She worries the strategy could backfire and lead to more virus spread, especially for people using the pedestrian walkway."Now, you have large masses of people with no social distancing, you're creating an unsafe environment," said Avila.Montanez says he does his best to keep his distance while in line."You do, even though, you're close to each other, there's no space between the front and the back of you," said Montanez.Agency officials urge people to only travel to Mexico if it's necessary."We need people to think twice about non-essential travel and to ask themselves if the travel is worth risking their lives and the lives of others. (KGTV) — A dream trip to Africa for a Santee grandmother turned into a nightmare as she sat in a tour bus.Daughter-in-law Tomira Baca-Craig says Jeanette Craig, who retired four years ago, left for South Africa two weeks ago. Jeanette had been saving for the trip for more than a year.  It was her first trip to Africa.A few days after she arrived, she was on a tour bus headed to an animal preserve in the landlocked country of Lesotho when the bus overturned, killing three and injuring more than 12 tourists on board, including Jeanette."Because she had her seatbelt on, she wasn't thrown. She was trapped upside down. When the bus rolled, that's when she sustained all her injuries," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette was transported by helicopter to a clinic just outside Lesotho. She has since undergone several surgeries, suffering a fractured pelvis and leg, and torn ligaments in her legs."Now her pain is just shocking. There's a ton of breakthrough pain every time she shifts because the pelvis is bone on bone," said Baca-Craig.Jeanette is comforted by her daughter, who just arrived in South Africa. Loved ones say they just want to bring her home.  "We'd like to get an MRI and another CT scan to and rule out everything else because it was such a traumatic accident," said Baca-Craig. The problem?
