VISTA, Calif. – A man was arrested Monday after authorities say he stabbed his wife and daughter inside their Vista home. The incident happened Sunday night just before 8 p.m. on the 1000 block of Corvalla Drive.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, during a fight with his wife and daughter, 55-year-old Juventino Vazquez grabbed a knife from a closet.Following a struggle, Vazquez reportedly stabbed both his wife and daughter several times before leaving the home.Both victims were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Vazquez was arrested Monday afternoon after a witness reported a suspicious person on the 900 block of Barsby Street.He was booked into jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and violating a domestic violence restraining order with injuries. 831

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed in the 100 block of Estrelita Drive in Vista Friday night. Police say the white pickup truck involved in the crash fled the scene. The crash happened at 8:18 p.m., according to police. Two hours later police found an abandoned vehicle down the road that matches the pickup described in the crash. WASHINGTON (AP) — A new report shows how warming temperatures in the Arctic transform the region's geography and ecosystems. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's annual Arctic Report Card was published Tuesday.The report shows that the past year - from October 2019 to September 2020 - was the second warmest on record in the Arctic, the report said.The extent of snow on the ground in June across the Eurasian Arctic was the lowest recorded in 54 years.Satellites recorded the second-lowest end of summer sea ice extent in the ocean since record-keeping began 42 years ago, the report stated.According to the report - from September 2019 to August 2020 - the Greenland ice sheet experienced an ice loss higher than the 1981-2010 average but substantially lower than the 2018-19 record."Abnormal cyclonic atmospheric circulation centered over Greenland promoted normal or colder-than-average conditions for the interior and east, with higher air temperatures in the north, southwest, and many coastal regions," researchers who contributed to the report stated.The report also added that extreme wildfires in the Sakha Republic of northern Russia this year "coincided with unparalleled warm air temperatures and record snow loss in the region."According to the Associated Press, the report from last year included for the first time essays and research contributed by the Arctic's Indigenous communities. (KGTV) - The driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash in Encinitas that left a mother with severe injuries was sentenced Monday to one year in jail.Justin Parker hit Ashley Lane on Encinitas Blvd. in September 2017. She suffered multiple broken bones, strokes, and partial paralysis.Parker turned himself in two weeks after the hit and run, as investigators were closing in on tips from the community. Investigators say Parker had been drinking prior to the incident.Investigators said Parker drove his truck to a repair shop in Riverside county to repair the damage. Lane made a victim impact statement in Vista court Monday, calling Parker 'selfish' and 'cowardly'."The only reason you turned yourself in was because of the tips from the community of Encinitas and the hard work from my father. My girls have been hurt the most in this," Lane said.  900
