BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China and India have agreed to enhance political, economic ties and bolster people-to-people contact during a meeting between Indian President Pratibha Patil and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao here on Thursday.It is the Indian president's first official visit to China and the first visit to China by an Indian head of state in the last decade.In the meeting Wen proposed the two states treat bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term point of view, enhance high-level communication and bolster cooperation, in a bid to benefit the two peoples and the world."Practicing mutual respect conforms with the fundamental interests of the two states and peoples and will spark new hope for human beings," Wen Jiabao said in the meeting.Patil said India and China share broad common interests in the bilateral and multilateral fields.She pledged to boost high-level contact, cement economic and trade ties, promote two-way investment and people-to-people contact, and strengthen coordination on major international affairs with China.In her meeting with Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo, Patil said all the parties of India support the development of relations with China.Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said to promote peaceful co-existence and common development of the two countries meets the fundamental interests of both sides, and complies with the mainstream trend of peace and development in Asia and the world."China and India do not pose as threat to each other and their common interests far outweigh differences," he added.Wu said he hopes the two sides understand and respect each other's core interests and major concerns, properly handle their differences, and seek common development and a win-win situation."A good China-India relationship makes both winners while a confrontational one makes both losers," he added.Patil said the two countries had conducted sound cooperation not only in bilateral field but also under multilateral frameworks including BRIC and G20.The cooperation between India and China in the Copenhagen climate change summit served as a good example of bilateral cooperation in global affairs, she added.Patil arrived here Wednesday for the week-long state visit.

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government has allocated another 200 million yuan (29.3 million U.S. dollars) to quake relief in the northwest Qinghai Province on top of 500 million yuan already earmarked, the Ministry of Finance said Friday.The funds will support relief efforts, including resettlement, subsidy on daily necessities, medical care, epidemic prevention, re-opening of schools, and infrastructure repairs, according to the ministry's website.The ministry ordered timely allotment and tightened management of the relief funds to help the quake-affected residents to restore production and life as early as possible.The 7.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Qinghai's Yushu prefecture on April 14 had left at least 2,200 people dead, with more than 100,000 homeless.

KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top economic planner, refuted a report on Friday claiming China is facing stagflation risks, arguing the national economic growth might slow slightly but stagflation is not going to occur.The NDRC response followed the release of a domestic report that claimed rising inflation and slowing economic growth would lead to stagflation in China.The NDRC added that the report was inaccurate and likely to cause misunderstandings and confusion, according to a statement released on its website.The statement went on to say growth in China's gross domestic product (GDP) was likely to slow down this year because of a higher comparison base used in the second half of last year, but it would still be one of the world's strongest growth rates and should not be labeled as "stagflation".Further, the NDRC noted that the consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of China's inflation, was likely to exceed the government's 3-percent growth target in several months, but "there is a foundation to achieve the full-year CPI target of 3 percent" as long as China continued improving macro-regulations, it said.The NDRC statement noted that China would see "stable and comparatively fast economic growth" and "a moderate consumer price increase" this year.China's GDP rose 11.9 percent from a year earlier during the first quarter of this year. The CPI increased 2.4 percent year on year in March while the growth for April accelerated to 2.8 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).The NBS is scheduled to release May economic data, including the CPI, fixed asset investment and retail sales, on June 11.
