SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Gas & Electric has warned about 2,700 customers in several East County communities of potential public safety power shutoffs starting Friday morning.The utility company said outages may occur due to a red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service and the need to reduce wildfire risk in the areas. "Public Safety Power Shutoffs are a last resort to prevent wildfires, and our employees are dedicated to doing everything we can to minimize impacts should it come to that. We’re hoping Mother Nature cooperates, but in an abundance of caution we have reached out to our customers so they can be prepared."SDG&E says several hundred linemen, troubleshooters, and support personnel will be working on Thanksgiving Day and through the holiday weekend to monitor the grid.The red flag warning will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday through 9 a.m. Saturday for San Diego County's inland valleys and mountains. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents at Aquatera Apartments in Mission Valley say they are upset about how managers handled notifying them about a violent attack in their complex. Many residents saw police cars parked at Aquatera for much of the day on Sept. 4. An email from the management company was not sent notifying residents until Monday.Aquatera spokesperson Margie Newman confirms to 10News that a resident was assaulted on the premises. She says the resident went to Aquatera staff for help. Staff immediately called police. Newman says a suspect was arrested within the hour. Because the threat to residents was ended so quickly, the decision was made to gather more information before notifying other residents. "Our team simply wanted to get it right. The threat was passed. The perpetrator was caught within the hour, so we wanted to make sure that what we were sharing was the most accurate information," Newman said.Several residents told 10News they asked Aquatera staff what had happened and were not given answers. Monday, a resident checked the Crimemapping.com website, which aggregates police report data from the San Diego Police Department. It listed a rape at the Aquatera address at noon on the 4th. The resident contacted Aquatera management to ask why residents hadn't been notified about a sexual assault five days prior. A few hours later is when the email went out to residents, saying an assault had taken place and an arrest made. The email also listed a number of steps residents could take to increase their personal safety."It's disturbing that it took five days, especially when our safety is concerned. Very disturbing," said a resident who identified herself as Lisa. "My husband is now in charge of walking the dogs at night. I have mace that I actually bought today. It's really sad that now we have to walk around armed." 1864

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents can learn about the city's most iconic buildings this weekend during an open house of nearly 100 sites.Open House San Diego, hosted by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, is offering a free look into sites including buildings downtown, in Barrio Logan, Balboa Park, La Jolla, and elsewhere in the county March 23 and 24. Guests get designer-led tours of hidden gems and treasures across San Diego and can participate in a photo contest to win prizes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Reverend Sandra Dority knows the dangers of heart disease, the top killer in San Diego County."My sister just passed from a heart attack in December, and my mom had congestive heart failure," she told 10News this week.That's why the 74-year old makes sure to eat right, exercise and, above all, know her numbers."My blood pressure is 116 over 74, and that was after a five mile walk on Saturday," she says.Dority tells everyone she can to know their numbers. It's a message she says is especially important in the black community, where the prevalence of heart attacks, stroke and high blood pressure are higher than normal."We have to change our lifestyle," she says. "There is a better way to live, because the numbers aren't changing unless we change."Dority was one of the first people to join LiveWell San Diego in their Love Your Heart campaign, which offers free blood pressure screenings at hundreds of locations across the county. She brought information to her church, Mount Moriah Christian Church in Mira Mesa.Now, she volunteers at blood pressure screening events, helps run educational sessions, and makes sure pastors talk about heart health from the pulpit every Sunday."God is love and he wants us to reach out and let others know there's a better way to live.
