Of those statistics, there is an all-time-high in the number of undeclared or “No-Party-Preference” voters. San Diego County Registrar of Voters, Michael Vu, said there are 1.77 million registered voters in the county, the highest it has ever been. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Neighbors are shaken up after a home invasion in University City. “I wouldn’t have expected it because I feel like this area UTC especially is pretty safe,” says neighbor Alana Schnoor. San Diego police got the call early Monday morning, around 1 a.m, from the home in the 5300 block of Toscana Way.Two men wearing masks went inside of an unlocked apartment. One of them pointed a gun at the people inside, while the other grabbed phones and laptops. Police say one of the victims grabbed the gun and fought the robber. The intruder hit the man with the weapon, and both robbers ran out. “It’s a safe area. I just wouldn’t have expected someone with a gun going into an apartment like that,” said neighbor Amy Kaido. Police say the intruders were wearing green jackets with black stripes and black pants. Both men were in their 20’s. 860

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A couple in San Diego are spending the holiday telling everyone they know to register as an organ donor."People don't like to talk about their death, but rather than bury these organs or burn them up, you can save lives," says Nancy Marlin, who is recovering from a kidney transplant.Marlin had a genetic kidney disease and would have needed dialysis if not for the donation. Her new kidney came from a co-worker."I was so fortunate," says says. "Someone gave me the most amazing gift."It's a gift her family knows well. Marlin's husband, Fred Kolkhorst, had a heart transplant just 18 months ago after being diagnoses with heart failure."It changes you immensely in ways that are difficult to describe," he says.Kolkhorst and Marlin are rare in that they're a married couple who have both received donated organs. Sharp Memorial Hospital Transplant Coordinator Tammy Wright says she can't think of any couples in her 25 years in the field.Wright says the holidays are the perfect time for families to talk about their wishes in regards to organ donations."It's a time of giving," she says. "The simple thing is to tell your family what your wishes are. SAN DIEGO, CA — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego calls it the "Get It Done" App, but a Normal Heights man says he wants to know when work will get done."They block the sidewalk. They've ripped through my canopy. They've killed my two lemon trees," said Mike Scaglione as he stood in front of his home. He's referring to the damage caused by palm fronds that fall from two trees on city property he says are in serious need of maintenance. "It'll be seven years tomorrow that I've lived here and in that time frame I've probably picked up 3 or 4 hundred palm fronds."Scaglione said he's been trying for several months to get the city to keep up with the trimming of the two palms outside his home. "They say they're going to, or they direct me to somebody, but it just keeps going no where until it's a dead end." Scaglione says aside from the damaged to his property, he fears a potential for much worse. "Its kind of hard to see," he says, grabbing a palm frond from a pile collected near the trees, "but if you run your hand along here there's a pretty jagged toothed edge on here that if it was to land on somebody it could rip them pretty nicely."Scaglione has been using the city's Get It Done app. Past reports show crews have responded to clean up the fronds once they're on the ground. But when it came to a neighborhood tree trim last October he says, "They came through here and trimmed every tree on the block except mine." Scaglione said he asked the crews why. "They didn't have anything that could get up that high." Scaglione estimates the trees at 40 to 50 feet.In response to an inquiry by 10News, a city spokesperson sent an email explaining San Diego is on a two-year cycle for trimming city owned palm trees. Scaglione's block was on the schedule for October. But there's still more work to be done. So, does that mean the trees in front of Scaglione's home will be trimmed? "Yes," replied the spokesperson, "It is on the schedule." Though Mike feels like he's been here before."They would look into it when they were doing similar work in the neighborhood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man in the center of a viral video depicting a police arrest appeared in San Diego County Superior Court Tuesday. But he was there for another case, dating back to 2017.20-year-old Trenelle Cannon spoke at one of his many court appearances scheduled for this week. This one was regarding a robbery from 2017, where prosecutors said Cannon snatched a ,000 gold chain off a person's neck."The defendant was seen running to a vehicle, and that vehicle took off. There was a police hot stop on it. The defendant ran from the passenger and left the necklace inside," Deputy District Attorney, George Modlin said. But Cannon made headlines because of a controversial video, released Wednesday. The 12-second video was recorded from the back of a sedan that Cannon was riding with four others. Police said despite a demand to stop, the driver sped off onto Interstate 5. Near the freeway exit, police conducted a traffic stop. That's where the video begins. Cannon's girlfriend Shakira Smith, who took the video, said the man on the other end of the officers' punches, is Cannon. But San Diego Police said the 12-second video does not show the whole story, of how the 20-year-old had multiple outstanding warrants. According to San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, officers were surveilling Cannon before the incident. When he took off, Chief Nislet said officers chased him. When they got close, he noted Cannon resisted, which resulted in the necessary force, which he called "physical strikes and distraction strikes.""Cannon refused to cooperate and struggled to keep his hands in front of his body." Chief Nisleit said. Cannon's loved ones said that was police brutality."He is quickly pulled out of the vehicle by his shirt, head first, throwing him down to the ground aggressively," girlfriend Shakira Smith said. In his short adult life, Cannon has been the defendant for at least three other criminal cases: involving a stolen cell phone, a gold chain, firearms possession, and identity theft. While he awaits the arraignments for his new charges, he requested a change in his living situation."I just wanted to request that I be taken out of the psych ward or whatever," Cannon said. "But they put me in like, a psych ward facility on the 6th floor, and I would request that I go to mainline. I've seen the psychiatrist and she said there is nothing wrong with me at all, and she doesn't understand why I'm up there."Cannon's arraignment for the charges from the video will be tomorrow at 1:30 pm. 2534
