LIMBE, Cameroon, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The released Chinese nationals who were kidnapped in Cameroon days ago arrived in Cameroon's port city Limbe late on Wednesday and the seven are all in good condition.The Chinese nationals left the Bakassi peninsula by boat where they were released. Limbe is the port city of Cameroon in the Atlantic Ocean.The Seven Chinese nationals on board two fishing boats owned by China's Dalian Beihai Fishing Company were abducted early Friday morning by gunmen off the Bakassi peninsula.An "Africa Marine Commando", which had been unknown, claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. Released Chinese nationals call their families after arriving in Cameroon's port city Limbe on March 17, 2010. Ten of the 15 crew members on board the vessel "Bourbon Sagitta" was kidnapped near the Bakassi peninsula. The kidnappers threatened to kill the hostages before releasing them 12 days later.Three Chinese workers were abducted by unidentified kidnappers in May 2008 in Calabar, the capital city of Nigeria's southern Cross River State, which is adjacent to Cameroon.The Cameroonian army deployed a Rapid Response Unit (RRU/ DELTA) in April 2009 to beef up security in the Bakassi peninsula.In October 2009, RRU/ DELTA killed four pirates and wounded four others at the Idabato sea opening in the Bakassi peninsula.

BEIJING, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature will convene its bimonthly session from Feb. 24 to 26, making a final preparation for an annual full session next month.According to a statement of a meeting, presided over by top legislator Wu Bangguo Wednesday, an important task at the three-day session late this month is to prepare for the upcoming Third Plenum of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), scheduled to open on March 5.Lawmakers at the February session will deliberate a draft report on the work of the 11th NPC Standing Committee, the draft agenda of the third 11th NPC session, the draft of the name list for presidium and secretary-general, and the draft of the name list for non-voting delegates to the plenary session in March.They will also continue to review the draft law on mobilization for national defence, as well as a draft amendment to the law on keeping state secrets.The draft amendments to the Administrative Supervision Law and the Copyright Law will also be submitted by the State Council to the legislative session for discussion, according to the statement.They will also discuss a consular agreement with the Philippines and a report on the inspection of the enforcement of the Food Safety Law, as well as a motion regarding appointments and dismissals.

Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has abundant oil reserves and it is the largest natural gas-producing region in China. An economic development plan for Xinjiang is expected to come out soon. It will emphasize use of Xinjiang's advantageous resources, including petrochemicals, coal, non-ferrous metals and agriculture. The investment is likely to rise steadily over the next three years, driven by increased financial support from central government and neighboring provinces, and large-scale investment for key projects from State-owned companies. The rising tourism industry will also be a contributor to Xinjiang's economic growth.Tibet autonomous regionThe Tibet autonomous region is becoming another hotspot in China's regional economic development. The plateau region was traditionally dependent on farming and herding. Recently Tibet laid out a plan to explore its mineral resources, while pledging to stick to rational exploitation and minimizing the damage to the natural environment. The government announced plans to achieve "leapfrog development" in Tibet in January, including building the region into a "strategic reserve of natural resources" with the aim of reducing poverty among the Tibetan people. Tibet has more than 3,000 proven mineral reserves and it has China's biggest proven chromium and copper deposits. According to the plan, mineral resources will contribute at least 30 percent to the regional GDP over the next 10 years. Tourism will continue to play a significant role in supporting the economy.

BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Centralized procurement by the Chinese government has helped save close to 2 billion yuan (about 290 million U.S. dollars) in 2009, an official said here Thursday.The Chinese government spent more than 14.7 billion yuan in government procurement last year, Chen Jianming, director with the government procurement center said during a work conference held in Beijing.The figure was 1.8 billion yuan more than in 2008, he said.Chen noted that Chinese government departments had made "remarkable" progress in reducing their expenditures in 2009.For instance, the amount of money spent on purchasing vehicles by the government departments in 2009 dropped by 35 percent year on year, he said.They also spent two percent less in government procurement for work conferences compared with the year before, he said.Chen said the government purchases will continue to focus on energy-efficient, environment-friendly, as well as innovative and domestic products in 2010.The procurement center would stick to the policies of protecting information security and supporting small and medium-sized companies when making purchases, in order to push forward the development of the country's industries and the readjustment of its economic structure, Chen said.
