SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Around the world in eight and a half years, one couple returns to San Diego after almost a decade of sailing. Neal Schneider and his wife Ruth left San Diego on their 48-foot sailboat in December 2010. Schneider tells 10News, “I felt like there was an invisible hand grabbing the front of my shirt saying come on you got to do this.” He initially thought it would take them four years to circumnavigate. 38 countries and 49,000 miles later, they ended up taking a little longer. Their path took them to Mexico, French Polynesia, Tonga, New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, and Africa and beyond. In fact, they decided to spend one whole year living in Thailand. During their adventures there were times where they flew back to the United States. Two of their children got married and they attended the weddings. As the couple prepares for the final leg of their trip, Schneider says, “we are very excited on the verge of being emotional”. An eye-opening experience for the Schneiders, “what a fabulous world this is, but I’ll tell you, I think one of our favorite places in all the places is San Diego.” They are expected to arrive Tuesday evening and dock at San Diego Yacht Club. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As former San Diego State star Kawhi Leonard readies for his Los Angeles Clippers debut Tuesday, another Aztec will also start the season on an active NBA roster.SDSU's Jalen McDaniels was signed to a multi-year contract and placed on the 17-man roster for the Charlotte Hornets Sunday, the team announced. McDaniels left SDSU after his sophomore season last spring and was picked 52nd overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.The 6-10 forward led the Aztecs in rebound average, total steals, and was second in scoring average last season. McDaniels signed with the Hornets on Oct. 10 under an unguaranteed Exhibit 10 contract, before the team converted it to a two-way contract on Saturday — meaning he could go back and forth between Charlotte's G League-affiliate, Greensboro Swarm, and the NBA. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — California Highway Patrol investigators are correcting their initial findings of a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in February.In March, CHP said 35-year-old Justin Callahan was at fault for the fatal collision on the northbound I-5 transition ramp to westbound I-8 on Feb. 26 just before 2 a.m.Investigators had believed Callahan, driving in a Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling eastbound in the westbound I-8 lanes when he collided with a Toyota Camry on the transition ramp — a finding Callahan's family had contested.RELATED: Family disputes CHP's details of I-5 wrong-way crashCallahan died at the scene while two female occupants inside the Toyota suffered major injuries.Friday, CHP said they've now concluded the Toyota was traveling in the wrong direction when it collided with Callahan's vehicle on the ramp.Investigators also said the driver of the Toyota, 22-year-old Lauren Freeman, was found to be under the influence at the time of the crash.Freeman turned herself into San Diego Superior Court Friday.
