A hotel cook apparently upset over human resources issues has been arrested for allegedly planning a mass shooting of his coworkers and guests at a Marriott property in Long Beach, California, city police said Wednesday.A tip from a colleague led police to arrest Rodolfo Montoya, 37, at his Huntington Beach home, Chief Robert Luna said at a news conference.Police seized firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and tactical gear, including high-capacity magazines and an assault rifle, which are illegal to possess in California, Long Beach Police said in a news release."Suspect Montoya had clear plans, intent, and the means to carry out an act of violence that may have resulted in a mass-casualty incident," Luna said.Montoya will appear in court as early as Thursday, Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office spokesman Ricardo Santiago said. It was not immediately clear whether Montoya has an attorney.At least 28 people have been arrested over threats to commit mass attacks since massacres this month in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. Just after the shootings, the FBI director issued a directive for agency offices nationwide to conduct a new threat assessment.Montoya doesn't appear to have a criminal history that would prevent him from legally owning the types of guns allowed in California, Luna said.He was booked on manufacturing and distributing assault weapons, possession of an assault weapon and making a criminal threat and is being held on 0,000 bail at the Long Beach City Jail, the news release states.The district attorney's office expects the police department to present its case Thursday, Santiago told CNN. 1662

On concert day Dominic was ready to perform using his own shiny saxophone. But according to his family, Dominic was told by an administrator that he could not play his instrument with the band. He was instructed to use the plastic saxophone - with earphones.Dominic was upset and his loved ones were too. We’re told he and his family did not agree to this. They also say, with this device, Dominic’s the only one who can hear his music. It is silent to the rest of the world.The family believes this is discrimination and exclusion. School lockdown. It's a term that has become far too common in America. An analysis by the Washington Post found more than 4.1 million students were involved in at least one lockdown in the 2017-2018 school year. One million of those students were in elementary school. Just this month, a lockdown at Sandy Hook Elementary occurred on sixth anniversary of the nation's worst school massacre in history. Another this month happened at Columbine High School. "Being able to have the capacity to lockdown a school effectively is a really important safety tool,” says Amanda Klinger, a school safety educator and advocate. Klinger says although school lockdowns are needed, how they are conducted can be traumatic for students. “There is a cost,” she explains. “There is a cost to emotional anxiety cost.” Data shows 15 percent of all school lockdowns are related to threats, including bomb threats. Another 15 percent is related to police manhunts, and at least 61 percent were related to firearms. Klinger says for student’ mental well-being, we have to do better job communicating why they’re going on lockdown. She says schools should be more transparent with students, parents, and staff to help them better understand the situation and not promote panic. “We're going into a level 1 lockdown because they're serving a warrant in the neighborhood, so everyone can go, ‘OK, I’m not going to die today, probably, but we're just not going to go outside for recess,’" she says.
