SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Pacific Beach business owner is responding to a viral video of a worker's violent confrontation with a homeless man this week.The owner of B-Mo's Sandwich Shop, identified as Marc L., posted a message to Facebook in response to the video, which shows an employee push a table into a shirtless man's head, then begin throwing his belongings into the street.The note read in part that while he is apologetic for the events that occurred, "this person has been rather malicious to our community for over a year now."RELATED: Violent confrontation between Pacific Beach worker, homeless man caught on tape"Let me reiterate, this is no excuse for the choices and actions of our employee. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Linda Vista grandfather is missing a pricey, sentimental piece of jewelry after trying to help out some strangers.Steve Phakdy says his 71-year-old father was attending an event at a Buddhist temple in Chollas View more than a week ago, when a white Chevy Tahoe pulled up. "Flagging him down, saying, 'Hello mister.' The husband says, 'It's my wife's birthday. Can you give her a blessing?'" said Phakdy.Phakdy says his father did something to acknowledge the birthday. A woman in her 30s then got out of the SUV."She hugs my dad," said Phakdy. In the backseat was a baby in a car seat."The husband gets out and says, 'We have some jewelry to give you or show you,'" said Phakdy.Together, the two placed rings on his hands, wrapping necklaces around his neck and arms."The husband was grabbing his wrist. Turning it around doing this and doing that," said Phakdy.His father offered to pay for the jewelry, but the couple quickly drove off. "Was looking at the bracelet they gave him and hey, wait, where's my bracelet?" said Phakdy.Gone was a 24-karat-gold-and-diamond bracelet, an anniversary gift from his wife. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A longtime North Park business has been forced to shutter its doors due to the economic toll of the pandemic.A&B Sporting Goods has sat on University Ave. for 79 years. The business told ABC 10News that it thrives off of local youth sports, which have largely been canceled this year due to the coronavirus.Owner Greg Schloss, whose father and grandfather worked at the store before him, said he hadn't planned on closing shop, but could not keep the business going any longer."I've worked here 40 years. The neighborhood is driven by a lot of kids playing ball in this neigborhood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man suspected of causing serious injuries that left a man in a coma-like state for nearly four years before his eventual death was arrested earlier this month, San Diego police announced Tuesday.San Diego police said 42-year-old Manuel Lopez was identified by investigators as the suspect in the death of Allen Stokes and was taken into custody on Sept. 3, on suspicion of murder.On March 12, 2016, Stokes was found unresponsive in an apartment building in the 7100 block of El Cajon Boulevard. Stokes was taken to the hospital for treatment, but his condition never improved.According to police, Stokes “remained in a conscious, yet unresponsive state, until his death” on Nov. 8, 2019.The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Stokes’ death “was the result of injuries received in March of 2016.”Stokes was 67 years old at the time he was injured. He was 72 years old when he died, police stated.After Stokes’ death was determined to be a homicide, investigators gathered evidence and spoke to those who knew the victim and eventually identified Lopez as a suspect in the case.Police said Lopez was booked into County Jail following his arrest.During Lopez's Tuesday afternoon arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Mary Naoom alleged a mallet was used in the killing.In entering his plea, Lopez told San Diego County Superior Court Judge Peter Deddeh, `"`I'm innocent."Lopez was ordered held on million bail and a bail review hearing was set next week in his case.Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact SDPD’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. 1643

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mountain lion cub rescued by the San Diego Humane Society continues to make great strides in its recovery.The Humane Society said the female cub was found by Vista Grande Fire Station firefighters near a road in Idyllwild on Sept. 2. The cub was “semiconscious, extremely emaciated, dehydrated, weak and had tremors,” according to the Humane Society.Under the care of the Humane Society’s Project Wildlife, the cub -- believed to be 14 weeks old -- has made significant health progress.Through daily fluid therapy, medications, and proper meals, the Humane Society said the cub has increased her weight from 10.5 pounds to 22 pounds.Christine Barton, the director of Operations & Wildlife Rehabilitation at the Humane Society’s Ramona campus, said, “With each passing day, she becomes more active and responsive and, though she still has some medical issues to overcome from being in such a fragile state, we are delighted she has responded well to our treatment and are hopeful she will make a full recovery. Mountain lions are special predators and we are proud to have an expert team trusted by the state of California to care for the species.”The Humane Society added:“Mountain lions typically stay with their mother until they disperse to live a solitary life at around 12-18 months of age. Because it is not safe to return a young mountain lion to the wild if found injured or orphaned as a kitten, Project Wildlife has been working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to monitor her progress and when stabilized, to ensure she has a good permanent home at a qualified facility.San Diego Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on Sept. 1 from the Humane Society of the United States. This mountain lion cub is the first wildlife patient admitted at the Ramona Campus since San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife took over.Project Wildlife is one of only two licensed rehabilitation organizations that have a special agreement with the state to work with black bears and are also routinely called on to assist with other apex predators, such as mountain lions.” 2153
