SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Protesters dressed in salon gear took to the street outside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco home Thursday.In video of the protest, some demonstrators are seen with curlers in their hair, plastic is draped over them and hair dryers hang from trees.The rally came two days after video of Pelosi getting her hair cut inside a California salon surfaced.California Governor Gavin Newsom lifted restrictions on hair salons serving customers indoors at the end of last month. However, the city of San Francisco still requires such services to only be provided outside.Pelosi says the salon told her it would be OK to come inside, because they are only accommodating one person at a time.She also claims the whole thing was a set-up, since the video was released to the media by the salon's owner, KGO reports. SAN YSIDRO (KGTV) -- Business owners and commuters from Mexico are nervously waiting and watching to see what President Trump's next move will be. Tuesday afternoon, the president told reporters he is still deciding whether he'll shut down the southern border. Business owners in San Ysidro say just the mere threat is keeping people away. "There's a lot of workers who cross daily, and most of them live in Mexico, so that definitely affects them, but people who are in retail it definitely affects our sales because customers don't want to get stuck at the border like they did last time there was a 5 hour shut down," said Govinda Figueroa. She said when the border at San Ysidro closed in November, it took weeks to make up the loss. "Last time there was a shut down it actually affected our sales for the next two weeks," said Figueroa.Juan Cisneros lives in Tijuana, but walks to San Ysidro for work. He says the thought of the port of entry closing, even for a day, scares him. "If we work in Mexico, the money is not enough, that's why we have to cross here to have a better living, so that's the reason we cross most of the time, so it will change our lives," said Cisneros. During Tuesday's news conference, the president said in the last two days, Mexico has done a better job of stopping the flow of Central American migrants from coming through its southern border. Figueroa said she doesn't know what to think. "I think it's 50/50. I think a lot of us think it's just another political move and just another you know, empty promise or threat, but the people who cross are afraid it's going to happen and they don't want to get stuck at the border or on this side and not being able to cross back." 1720

The new study is the most extensive work yet on the immune system’s response to the virus and is good news for efforts to develop vaccines. The report published Tuesday in the New England Journal of Medicine. It was based on tests on more than 30,000 people in Iceland. It found antibodies lasted for at least four months after diagnosis. The study also found that more severe cases of the coronavirus led to a stronger immune response to the virus."Among recovered persons, antibody levels are higher in older persons and in those more severely affected by SARS-CoV-2 infection," according to the research. Independent experts say if a vaccine can spur production of long-lasting antibodies like that, it gives hope that immunity may not be fleeting. They are this year’s most crucial back-to-school accessories. Part of the reason is high demand and disruptions of supply chains that have jammed production of laptops and Chromebooks made by Dell, HP, Lenovo and other brands. Schools say another critical reason is the Trump administration’s recent sanctions on Chinese companies that have exacerbated massive backlogs. (KGTV) — Palomar Community College President Dr. Joi Lin Blake will resign this summer, after facing criticism over a recent budget report warning of the district's fiscal instability.This week the district's Governing Board approved the agreement for Blake to resign, which will take effect June 30. Blake was placed on leave following the Fiscal Crisis Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) report.Palomar Vice President Jack Kahn will serve at Acting Superintendent and President.
