Drivers who apply for new license plate tags should be careful how they do it, according to the Better Business Bureau (BBB).The BBB has received dozens of complaints about lookalike BMV and DMV websites, and one driver says he fell for a phony site.Brian Morgan recently received a letter explaining it was time to renew the plates on his pickup truck."I got the notice in the mail," he said, "and every year I then get online and do my registration renewal, and order my sticker."So he Googled the "state motor vehicle website." He clicked the top Google listing."It's always the first one," he said, "and I get it and go."So Morgan entered his personal info, address, and credit card number. But instead of getting a tag renewal, he got a very strange response."I ended up becoming a club member for .99 at this place," he said.Drivers fooled into thinking they are on state's siteAs he inspected the site closer, it turns out he had not visited at the DMV website, but instead was on one of several sites that look similar to the motor vehicles department of various states.From a legal perspective, companies doing this are doing nothing wrong. CLEVELAND — Police in northeast Ohio says they've collected multiple handguns in the past month that have been modified to turn the firearm into an automatic weapon.In one case, 20-year-old Toriano Leakes, Jr. of Cleveland was indicted on two counts of illegal possession of a machine gun.Bedford Police say the Glock handgun they confiscated from Leaks' car was modified to include a "select-fire auto sear." The device is also sometimes known as a "select fire switch."According to Justin Herdman, a US Attorney in the Northern District of Ohio, the modified handguns can fire 30 rounds in the span of five to six seconds.“It’s a newer thing hitting the internet because people think it’s cool,” said Assistant Bedford Police Chief Rick Suts.“The second you put that on a gun, it violates the National Firearms Act. It makes it a machine gun which is illegal," he said.Federal authorities say they've seen an increase in the modified handguns and they hope to crack down.“We have seen a significant uptick in people trying to acquire these switches manufactured mostly in China,” Herdman said. CINCO RANCH, Texas – Investigators say a 29-year-old man was shot and killed by intruders who broke into his suburban Houston home.The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says Brenton Estorffe was killed early Wednesday at his home in Cinco Ranch, a community 26 miles west of Houston.Sheriff Troy Nehls says Estorffe told a 911 operator that someone had broken a window in the back of his house. The man confronted the two intruders and was shot. The intruders then fled."The father woke up and confronted apparently two individuals, at which time there was some gunshots that were fired and the homeowner, a white male, is deceased inside the residence," said Nehls.Nehls says Estorffe didn't appear to be armed. His wife and two young children were not injured."It's sad, sad," said Nehls. "We have a homeowner now here in Fort Bend County who is no longer with us, and the father of two small children. Breaks your heart."Relatives said on social media that Estorffe was an Australian native. No arrests have been made and investigators haven't established a motive."It's a little unusual to have, not saying it doesn't happen but it's a little unusual for guys that are wanting to break into a home to steal a television or something to break into a house at midnight," said Nehls.
