Amazon is postponing it's Prime Day sale because of the pandemic.The massive sales bonanza normally takes place in mid-July.Amazon told CNN that they would be holding Prime Day "later than usual."The company says it will share more details soon.Prime Day is Amazon's version of Christmas in July, and sales during the two-day event have consistently outpaced Black Friday sales.Prime members in India are in luck, however.Amazon announced prime day there is on for August 6 and 7.Everyone else will have to wait. 520

A Waterford mother went through what she calls "the scariest 10 minutes of her life" while visiting her grandmother last weekendLacey Guyton was leaving her grandmother's when she put her 2-month-old daughter in the car. She says she put her daughter in her car seat, and the diaper bag in the back seat and shut the car door — only to discover that the door had locked.She immediately called 911 and was surprised by what the dispatcher told her — that 911 does not dispatch emergency services to unlock cars or break windows.Guyton said the dispatcher then offered to connect her to a tow company but knew she needed to get inside the car immediately to save her baby."I saw her start to close her eyes and I just ran to the back window and smashed it open," she said.Guyton says Waterford police contacted her to apologize about what happened, but she wants to set the record straight. "They never had the chance to respond. Nobody told them. They didn’t know, and had they known I feel they would have definitely come out," Guyton said.She says she was just overwhelmed by the amount of support she’s received from everyone following the incident. "There’s been so many people reaching out to me, hundreds of people telling me their stories, thanking me for putting this out there," Guyton said.Mother and daughter are now both doing well. 1391

American Airlines has sent out letters to roughly 25,000 employees about possible layoffs and furloughs. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letters, as they are called, are required by law 60 days before layoffs or furloughs are anticipated.The letters from the airline specifically say they are taking this step because of “overages we may start to see Oct. 1 when our Payroll Support Program funding expires.”They reference customer revenues being down 80 percent in June 2020 compared to June 2019. The company says they have 20,000 more employees on payroll than they “will need to operate our smaller schedule this fall.”American says they hope to lessen the number of furloughs by offering employees opportunities like extended leave and early retirement. "We know American will be smaller going forward and we must right-size all aspects of our airline to adjust to that new reality," the letter said. United Airlines sent nearly 36,000 similar letters to employees earlier this month. At the time, United said the notices covered about 45 percent of their U.S employees.Delta Airlines, who has not signaled any furloughs or layoffs at this time, did report low second-quarter earnings earlier this week. A Milledgeville, Georgia boy was arrested on Friday when a gun discharged from the boy's backpack inside an elementary school, WMAZ-TV reported. The boy attends Lakeview Academy, a school for students in grades 3 through 5. The boy told investigators that he was unaware that there was a gun in his backpack, and that he had never seen the firearm before. The gun reportedly went off as he was going through his backpack in the back of the classroom. After authorities arrived at the school, he was placed under arrest. The boy is facing four charges, according to WMAZ: Carrying a weapon in a school zone; reckless conduct; disrupting or interfering with public school; and possession of a pistol by a person under 18. Baldwin County Sheriff's Maj. Scott Deason told WMAZ that the firearm was a stolen Smith & Wesson 9-millimeter. Deason told the Union Reporter that that student could not explain to investigators how he ended up with the gun.“They questioned the juvenile in the presence of his mother,” Deason told the Union Reporter. “The mother also stated she didn’t know how the gun got into her son’s book bag.”The Union Reporter added that the boy is not allowed back in school until after he goes through the court system. 1320

ALPINE, Calif., (KGTV) -- Some residents in Alpine are ramping up their yard work after Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a State of Emergency for the Calfornia's most wildfire-prone areas. Alpine residents have a name for yard work. "It's a necessary evil. We have to clear it out," Jonathan Hesse said. 10News met Hesse as he and his son Ben were raking brush and chainsawing a dead tree on their front yard. "The drought, they [the trees] couldn't handle it anymore. So they died," Hesse said, pointing at the row of what used to be lush trees. He said the time had come to chop them down because he was sure they would ignite his entire 2.5-acre property. In the last two decades, the Hesse's have had three close calls. Their last evacuation was the 2018 West Fire. Luckily, they survived, as did their home. But they are not taking chances. "This year, there's a lot of weeds, and that's going to be tough to keep up with," Hesse said. Luckily, he has a helpful son and a sturdy tractor to help with the clean-up process. They will eventually put their large pile of dead logs and branches through a wood chipper to make mulch. Thanks to the work they did today, the flammability of their home is much lower than it was yesterday. "That's one thing we want to do. We want to make sure it doesn't get out of control," Hesse said.
