EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Renovations are underway at the East County Performing Arts Center to turn the nearly 50-year-old performance hall into a rock and roll concert venue."We have to change the vibe, the feel of what this building is," said Dirk Epperson, El Cajon's Director of Public Works.The venue closed in 2009 when the recession forced cuts in the city budget. Now, the renovations come as tour promoter Live Nation prepares to take over the venue. The City of El Cajon entered into a five year deal with the concert company to manage the building. As part of the agreement, Live Nation will bring 50 events to the venue in 2019, and as many as 70 events by 2023. Live Nation also manages the House of Blues in San Diego and Mattress Firm Amphitheater in Chula Vista."We're not sure what it will be like," said Mayor Bill Wells.  "We've never had this regular, steady diet of top name acts that are coming in. So nobody's quite sure how much this is going to have a ripple effect around El Cajon. But everybody thinks it will be positive."The city is now spending .3 million to upgrade the facility. Improvements include new amenities like modern concessions, a more open entrance, and lobby area and new plush seating in the first few rows. The seating capacity for the main hall will also increase to 1,300. Part of the plan also calls for a brand new VIP Lounge at the back of the venue. The money for the project comes from the sale of the old police headquarters.As for what kind of acts will fill the venue, Epperson said it's entirely up to Live Nation."It can pretty much be any type of act or band," he said, adding the city will let the experts decide. "But you can imagine the ones that are on their way up or on their way down will be coming to this size venue."Smaller, local performances like school concerts and recitals will still be held at the venue, which Wells says is part of the community. (KGTV) -- Some parents are upset after a document from the Cajon Valley Union School District was accidentally shared.Cajon Valley Union School District Superintendent David Miyashiro said an employee’s notes taken during a weekend planning summit -- which included the teachers union, school board members, and district management -- were inadvertently released.Under one of the sections in the notes is language describing parents as “stay at home mom, do not want to teach their kids,” as well as references to some parents being “right-wing” and “not all believe this is real and believe it will be finished by August.”Several parents obtained the document and were upset with how they were described. Demanding answers, some parents showed up at a closed-door district meeting on Tuesday evening where reopening plans were being discussed.Miyashiro sent 10News this statement on the matter: “I've both apologized to the parent community on our behalf and also addressed this with the employee. They weren't meant for public view but there's no excuse ... we don't speak about anyone that way.”Parents who spoke to 10News about the notes said they want something to come out of this situation, whether it’s training or education for staff members."The trust has been lost; the trust between parents and the school district. Trust between parents and superintendent, trust between parents and the board, I think. (KGTV)— Family and friends of 19-year-old Kiera Bergman gathered at the Ronald Reagan Community Center to celebrate her life. A month-long search ended in a body discovery in the Arizona desert. Her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old John Clark is accused of killing her. Kiera Bergman was the eldest daughter of the Bergman-Bragg family. Her mother Kiersten Bragg remembered Kiera had a strong personality, even before she was born.“I never forget I would always crave SpaghettiOs and that was one of her favorite things to eat,” Bragg said. She said as a teen Kiera would crave the canned spaghetti. Her family told 10News, Kiera was a spunky, playful, chunky toddler. "I always compared her to the Michelin man because she had tons of rolls everywhere,” her mother laughed. Then she became a big sister to Braydee. Kiera was silly, artistic, a talented singer, with a big heart. In his speech at the ceremony, her grandfather shared the time she spent her first ever paycheck from her part-time job on the homeless.“She bought the lady lunch. And I don't know many teenagers who will take their first paycheck and do that. So that kind of shows you what kind of girl she was,” Jim Bergman said, in tears. They said Kiera hoped to one day combine her giving personality with her dream job - America's best hairstylist.“Her dream was to at least once or twice a month, go to the homeless and do their hair and make them feel better about themselves,” Bragg said. But she was not able to live out her dream. Her boyfriend at the time, John Clark, convinced her to drop out of Cosmetology school. The two them moved to Arizona in March. Her boyfriend is accused of killing and leaving Bergman in the Arizona desert."That's what breaks my heart. Eight people were injured during a shooting at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Friday afternoon, chief of police Barry Weber told reporters. Weber confirmed that seven of the injured were adults, while one teen was among the victims. Weber did not know the extent of their injuries. Weber said when police arrived at the mall Friday afternoon, the shooter was no longer at the scene. As of early Friday evening, a suspect has not been found. A person said she heard gunshots near the food court in the mall. Mall security then ordered all customers to leave immediately, according to her.The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner tweeted that they are not responding to the incident, indicating no one has died at the scene.Members of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Wauwatosa Police, Wisconsin National Guard and other departments have been seen responding to the mall.Wauwatosa is located 10 miles west of downtown Milwaukee. 985
