The Simpson family is on a mission to feed the hungry and inspire others to do the same. “The feeling alone is worth it,” said Lathiell Simpson. “So, if you haven’t done it before, just try it.” Simpson says this idea of giving came after losing a loved one. “My mother-in-law passed away and we needed to cater her funeral and didn’t have the funds to,” he said. That’s when the Simpson’s came together as a family. They bought the food, cooked the meals – everything from appetizers to entrees – even down to the desert. “After I did that and looked at the food I said, ‘I did this with just one man, one kitchen,’” Simpson said. Simpson took that mantra and created a catering company, called One Man, One Kitchen. Fast forward two years, his business has grown and his family is taking to the streets looking to feed 1,000 hungry people this June. The Simpsons cover the cost to provide for the hungry and homeless. “There’s a lot of people out there that don’t have and I don’t have either,” Simpson said. “But when God blesses me with a little extra, I figure out a way of giving it back.” Those receiving these free meals say a little bit of giving can go a long way. “It makes a difference in my life,” said one recipient. “It kind of puts me in a better position.” “It makes me feel there’s some beautiful, good people because they are trying to help the people that are very poor,” said another recipient. According to experts, tens of millions of Americans struggle with hunger and more than a quarter of those people are children. “They do it from the bottom of their heart,” said the Simpson’s oldest child. “We don’t help the homeless, we help the hungry.” The Simpson’s children say they are learning life lessons from their parents’ kindness. Adding this is about much more than meals, it’s food for the heart and the soul.“It’s not always about keeping for yourself, it’s mostly about giving to someone else,” Simpson said. “And the feeling that it gives you afterward is worth more than money.” 2029

The Senate Finance Committee put big pharmaceutical companies on blast for their sky-high drug prices. Seven drug executives were grilled in a heated exchange with lawmakers, who were questioning their pricing practices. Pharmaceutical company Pfizer has raised the price of the popular diabetes drug Lyrica by 163 percent since 2012. Each of the pharmaceutical companies insisted the high costs is because it takes a lot of money to research and develop better more effective drugs. The Senate committee did not agree. The Big Pharma panel did offer ideas to find solutions to lower drug prices, including passing rebates. Additionally, Merck, as well as the majority of the panel, say they support the stop of price hikes on medicines that have no competition and encourages competition elsewhere. However, Senate members like Maria Cantwell of Washington, say Big Pharma says it wants to solve the issue, but ultimately didn't offer anything worthy to create change. "I think if you guys can't agree that these basic market functions that allow people to buy in bulk or on discount is good ideas for consumers, then I don't think we are going to come up with anything we agree on here,” Cantwell said during the hearing.Lawmakers, including some of those on the Senate Finance Committee, receive funds every year from the pharmaceutical industry. The Phoenix Police Department released video Wednesday of a frightening moment involving a red-light runner and a family crossing the street with a stroller.Police say the incident happened near 53rd Avenue and Indian School Road on October 14, around 10 p.m. Watch video of the incident in the player above.The family says Ulysses Betancourt, his wife Gabrielle and 1-year-old son Damian were on the way to the grocery store after riding the bus. Police say the driver who ran the red-light, 28-year-old Ernesto Otanez Oveso, was driving under the influence at the time. The driver with the right-of-way in the crash was injured, but the injuries were not life-threatening.After the crash, police say Oveso fled the scene along with a female passenger. Oveso allegedly told a witness that was following him to get away, and stabbed the car door of the witness. "He could've taken people's family members away, innocent people. Why would you do such a thing?" said Ulysses's sister, Abby Betancourt. "I'm so glad I'm going to see my brother. I love him and my sister-in-law." Oveso has been arrested and faces charges for DUI, aggravated assault and prohibited possession after a gun was found in his Jeep. The female passenger has not been located. 1263
