SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for a suspect who they say tried to sexually assault a woman before stealing her car.According to police, the incident happened on the 1700 block of India Street at 4:33 a.m. Sunday.Police say the man walked into Cafe Italia while the victim was cleaning. The man then pushed the woman into a back room where he tried to sexually assault her while wielding a Bowie knife.The woman was able to fight the suspect off before he grabbed her car keys and drove out of the area in the tan, 1998 GMC Jimmy with California license plate 7VOY594.The man is described as a 25 to 30-year-old white male with a medium complexion who is five feet, five inches tall with a thin build, has dark, curly hair and is unshaven.The suspect was last seen wearing a white baseball cap with black stripes and stars resembling an American flag, a black short-sleeved t-shirt and tan shorts with dark, high-top tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police’s Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 1060

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a man died in Southcrest Community Park late Friday night. Police were called to the scene after a passerby found a man with trauma and, possibly gunshot injuries to his upper body laying on the 1300 block of South 40th Street just after 10 p.m.San Diego Fire-Rescue was also called to the scene and began life-saving efforts, but police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say very little is known about the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The victim has been identified, but police haven't released his name at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police need help finding a man accused of burglarizing a boat and leaving behind a meth pipe and his own feces. The owner of the boat, Donnie Vachon, is still trying to pick up the pieces since it happened. He's out thousands of dollars due to damage and stolen property."Put it in perspective, it's just a boat, but it's our boat, it's our family's boat, it's my grand-babies boat," said Vachon.The theft happened in September and since then Vachon has heard of two more boat burglaries.He says the same off-brand soda can was left on both his boat and one of the others burglarized."It's kind of a heartbreaker, you wake up and go to work every day and here it sits," said Vachon, looking at the boat parked in the driveway.Detectives have not yet confirmed whether the burglaries are connected but are looking into it.If you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ralphs grocery stores are extending their hours to help seniors and provide greater flexibility for the general public, according to Director of Corporate Affairs John Votava.All stores will open at 6 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. for shoppers 60 years and older. "They're the most vulnerable population out there today, so we want to make sure they have time to come into our stores and shop uninhibited," Votava said.Locations will remain open to the public until at least 10 p.m., some will stay open later.Ralphs is also offering free pharmacy delivery for most locations and free pickup service for most grocery orders. Families took advantage of the pickup service Sunday at the Ralphs in Mission Valley. "I think it's going to make people feel comfortable shopping in a different way. If you can order online or call it in for sure," Tim Earp said through a mask.Votava said they're working on other safety features to protect customers and their employees. Plexiglass will be installed next week at checkout counters, and decals are already on the floor to encourage social distancing at checkout.Votava also said employees are allowed to wear masks and gloves while they work.He does have one request for anyone in the store, "if you see a senior who is shopping throughout the day, please let them cut to the front of the line so they can get in and out of the store safely."Votava said this is the new normal for now, and the store hours will reflect that indefinitely. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Council members approved Tuesday a new state of emergency resolution linked to sewage in the Tijuana River Valley. District Eight Councilmember Vivian Moreno, whose region includes the Tijuana River Valley, authored the resolution. Moreno cited significant amounts of plastic, tires and sediment flowing from Mexico into the United States. “This has been going on for far too long and South Bay is not a dumping ground,” Moreno said. “To solve this international crisis, we must stop pointing fingers. This is a regional issue that calls for a regional solution.” The crisis, which was first recognized with a resolution in 1993, has since worsened, council members agreed. The City of San Diego’s new resolution was designed to raise awareness about the public health impact. “District Eight residents frequently experience a foul smell, and people who have been exposed to the toxic waste have reported skin rashes, headaches and respiratory issues,” said Moreno. “The sewage, sediment and trash occurring in the Tijuana River Valley is an environmental crisis and we’re going to keep fighting until it’s fixed once and for all,” said Mayor Kevin Faulconer. “We’ve seen some positive movement recently after decades of advocating as a region to our leaders in Washington and Mexico City. They’ve identified the problem and the projects needed to fix it, and now we must push for them to take action.” 1444
