SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County has recorded its first case of measles of the year. The case was confirmed in an 11-month-old resident who had recently traveled to the Philippines, according to county health officials.Officials said the infant was unimmunized and is currently hospitalized and added others may have been exposed at the following locations: Kaiser Permanente Otay Mesa Medical Office Pediatric Clinic (4650 Palm Ave.) on July 29 from 6 to 9 p.m., Aug. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 4:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.Kaiser Permanente Otay Mesa Medical Office Urgent Care and Pharmacy (4650 Palm Ave.) on Aug. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center (9455 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.) on Aug. 5 from 8 to 10 p.m.County Health and Human Services is currently working with Kaiser Permanente to identify those who may have been exposed to determine if they are at risk.“Measles is a very contagious disease that can be spread easily by coughing, sneezing or being in the same room with an infected person,” Wilma Wooten, County public health officer, said. “Anyone who was at any of these specific locations at the dates and times listed above should watch for symptoms and call their health care provider if they show any signs of the disease.”Measles developed seven to 21 days after exposure. Early symptom include fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes. A distinctive red rash usually appears one to four days after early symptoms appear. The rash typically begins on the face and head then spreads downward and outward.A person is considered contagious four days before the rash appears.Anyone with symptoms is asked to call their doctor’s office in before visiting directly.Complications from measles are more common in children younger than 5 years old and adults 20 years and older, though the risk is higher with children. Complications include diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. In severe instances, death can occur.Since there is no treatment for measles, the best course is generally bed rest, fluids, and fever control medication. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Recent remedies aimed at reducing San Diego's homeless crisis have not been enough, according to a scientific 10News/San Diego Union-Tribune poll.The poll of 800 San Diego adults showed sentiments about addressing homelessness are not positive. When asked if they believed if homelessness was getting better, worse, or staying the same in San Diego, only 11 percent said it was getting better. About 60 percent said it's getting worse.Many believe that blame lies at the top of local government. When asked who is most responsible for reducing homelessness, 53 percent said elected officials and 18 percent pointed to the homeless and their families.RELATED: Housing crunch: San Diego needs 171,000 new homes by 2029So what's led to San Diego's homelessness? Of those surveyed, 33 percent believe housing costs have contributed most to the homeless crisis, 22 percent said substance abuse, and 20 percent said mental health issues.Recently, San Diego officials opened three temporary tent shelters to try and transition some of the city's homeless population into housing. When asked if they thought the tents helped, 51 percent said yes, 20 percent said no, and 29 percent were not sure.A report by the San Diego Housing Commission shows from December 2017 to March 2018, 946 people have exited the three tents. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County announced Wednesday if the county continues to hit state triggers with the spread of the coronavirus, museums, zoos and aquariums could be on the long list of closures Monday.The measures apply to any indoor activities.Balboa Park just reopened the Air and Space Museum two weeks ago, after everything closed down in March due to the pandemic."We want to make sure people come back to the park, it is the cultural heart of San Diego," Executive Director of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Peter Comiskey said.Comiskey said this weekend more of our favorite museums are set to open. Friday the Science Center, the Veterans Museum, the Natural History Museum and the International Gift Shop are set to reopen, with three more museums opening Saturday July 4.The possibility those openings could be short-lived is something Comiskey says they're ready for."We're certainly hoping all the people of San Diego County are really able to pull together and make sure the infection rate and the case load and all these lovely metrics, these important metrics can be contained and can be controlled," he said hopefully.Comiskey said if they have to close Monday after putting so many precautions and time in to ensure the park is safe, they will.Looking to the future, he said they're brainstorming how to bring in money to help these cherished icons survive."I think as time goes on we need to look at what fund-raising is possible, I think we need to look with those organizations that rely on revenue through the gate." On the field, our goal was to make playoffs. Now, we didn’t achieve that, but more important than that, we want to live to our values every day, and we unequivocally lived to the values we want to live to,” said Landon Donovan, the U.S. soccer star who serves as the team’s executive vice president.The squad, playing in the United States Soccer Federation (USSF)-sanctioned Division II, first had to deal with the repercussions of a global pandemic, postponing their season in March. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ross Rock, or as locals prefer "The Rock," has had its share of headgear.The lone rock just off the coast from Sunset Cliffs Boulevard has been the target of vandals in the past and has again been crowned, this time by a mermaid.It's not clear how the mermaid was installed on top of the rock. A peace sign, the numbers "2010" — local graduates, perhaps? — a Christmas tree, a tiki head, and at one point, a toilet with a Raiders fan wedged inside have all been found taking refuge from the waves below.It remains unclear who makes the objects or how they have installed them in the past.Time and again, however, Mother Nature or possibly another vandal has removed what's been placed. 1359
