CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. – A sheriff’s office in Georgia says it has fired a deputy who was caught on video repeatedly punching a Black man during a traffic stop.The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday the deputy, who is white, was fired for using excessive force on Roderwick Walker.The office did not identify the deputy but added that a criminal investigation has been turned over to the district attorney’s office.According to his attorney, 26-year-old Walker was arrested and beaten after deputies pulled over the vehicle he was riding in Friday with his girlfriend, their 5-month-old child and his stepson for an alleged broken taillight and asked for his identification.Videos of Walker’s arrest quickly surfaced on social media, which appear to show Walker pinned on the ground while officers are on top of him and one deputy punching him.In one video, obtained by WGCL, one of the deputies is heard saying “he bit my hand” and Walker is heard saying “I’m about to die.” You can also hear those witnessing the incident yelling for the officers to stop.The sheriff’s office says Walker has received medical treatment and is being monitored by a doctor at a jail hospital. CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — A Florida family says they were recently targeted by a terrifying kidnapping scam.Katie and Steve Watson live in Coral Springs, Florida and want to warn families about the crime.Katie tells WPTV that she received a call on Monday from a number she didn’t recognize. On the line she heard a whimpering child, then a mysterious man say he had kidnapped Katie’s daughter, Chloe."All of a sudden a man's voice came on the line, and he said, 'Katie I have your daughter. She's in the back of my van,' " Watson told WPTV on Tuesday.Katie said she quickly hung up, feeling in her gut that it was scam. "That's really part of what gave me the chills was somebody calling me by my name," said Watson. "That was unsettling."Katie says she figured it was a scam, but then got a bad feeling when she checked her daughter’s location through her phone's GPS.It initially said her daughter was at Westglades Middle School in Parkland, which Chloe attends. But then the GPS suddenly jumped to another location in Parkland.Upon further investigation, the Watsons found that her daughter was indeed at school, and more importantly, safe."I got chills all over my body and I was like, OK, I know that was a scam but that's like every parent's worst nightmare is to hear your kid has been kidnapped," said Watson.The FBI calls this a virtual kidnapping scam and says it’s evolved over the years and become more sophisticated.In the calls, a crook says he’s kidnapped your loved one and demands money in exchange for their safe return.In the Watsons' case, however, the scam was taken to a frightening new level with the use of a whimpering child on the line.The FBI offers these tips so you don’t become a victim: 1748

Cottonwood, Arizona police have arrested a 32-year-old woman in what they call, "One of the worst cases of neglect some of the officers involved have ever seen."Sarah Easterday-Shortridge faces several charges in connection with the crime. On the morning of March 10, the Verde Valley Regional SWAT team served a search warrant at a home.Officers were made aware of the residence after a person received medical treatment from being pistol-whipped by a man staying at the home the night before. Police say officers found Easterday-Shortridge's three children, all under the age of five, living in "deplorable conditions." The abandoned home reportedly had feces, trash, debris, broken glass, and rotting food throughout. Officers described the residence as a "flop-house" for drug users.The children were transported to a medical center where they received treatment and hygiene. Police say the kids were suffering from lice, open sores, scabies, bumps, and were covered in feces. The Department of Child Safety was called to the scene and the children were removed from Easterday-Shortridge’s custody, police said. She has been charged with several felonies including child abuse, endangerment, neglect or abuse of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.   1326
