President Donald Trump says he has asked the SEC to study whether to stop requiring companies to report quarterly earnings.In speaking to business leaders, one told him a twice-a-year reporting system would allow companies the flexibility and cost savings companies need to "Make business (jobs) even better in the U.S." Trump tweeted Friday morning. Trump said he directed the SEC to look into a change in its requirements.Public companies must report their sales, profits and the state of the company's balance sheet every quarter. That has been required since the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, which was put in place to give more confidence and transparency to investors in the wake of the 1929 stock market crash. That act also created the SEC, which sets the regulations which govern those quarterly reports.Businesses have long complained that the reports require company executives to focus too much on the short term. Juicing numbers impresses investors, but it can force companies to miss out on long term trends. One of the reasons Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants to take his company private, he told his employees last week, was the way quarterly reports distort decisions at the company.President Barack Obama has also criticized quarterly reports.Speaking to the New York Review of Books in 2015, Obama said that he had talked to a large number of businesses executives who told him, "Because they've got quarterly reports to shareholders and if they've made a long-term investment that may pay off way down the line, or if they're paying their employees more now because they think it's going to help them retain high-quality employees, a lot of times they feel like they're going to get punished in the stock market. Reopening schools and resuming youth sports, playdates and other activities has led to a sharp increase in the number of American children testing positive for COVID-19, according to health authorities.The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association released a report Tuesday showing children, ages 0 to 17, make up about 10 percent of all cumulative U.S. COVID-19 cases. Children were just 2 percent of total cases in April.As of September 24, more than 624,000 children have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. With the U.S. reporting just below 6 million cases total, that means roughly 10.5 percent of all cases are children.More than 74,000 new cases of COVID-19 among children were reported in the two weeks between Sept. 10 and 24, according to the CDC and AAP. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that the incidence of COVID-19 in school-age children began rising in early September as many youngsters returned to their classrooms.“These rising numbers concern us greatly, as the children’s cases reflect the increasing virus spread in our communities,” said American Academy of Pediatrics President Sally Goza, MD, FAAP in a statement. “While children generally don’t get as sick with the coronavirus as adults, they are not immune and there is much to learn about how easily they can transmit it to others.Over the last several weeks, children have accounted for between 12-16 percent of all new coronavirus cases weekly.Children do appear to have a lower fatality rate. The study shows that roughly 0.01 percent of children who test positive for the coronavirus have died from it.The AAP says these numbers may be low because of inconsistencies in reporting and testing. “The data are limited because the states differ in how they report the data, and it is unknown how many children have been infected but not tested,” they state.The number of children tested compared to the number of all tests being done in this country has remained steady since April of between 5-to-7 percent, according to the CDC.Earlier this month, the CDC released information that the average age of patients testing positive for COVID-19 has dropped to 38 years old in August as more younger Americans contract the coronavirus.The study from CDC also stated about 20 percent of COVID-19 cases are now patients in their 20s. 2407

Cyber experts say you should first focus on protecting your personal information that could have been compromised. Tekesha Saffold realized her account was breached when she logged in, but soon realized it wasn’t her account. She reached out to Facebook by phone, but she got an automated recording directing her to their troubleshooting page online. “I have no access to my account at this point, and it has all my information in it,” Saffold says. Saffold completed the steps Facebook told her to take in order to gain access back into her account, but it didn’t work.Cyber expert Fred Kneip, with Cyber GRX, says the most important thing to do is figure out what other accounts you sign into using your Facebook credentials. “The first things hackers do is take those passwords or credentials,” he explains. Hackers try to apply those passwords to banking sites and healthcare sites to get more information, and ultimately, steal your identity. That’s why Kneip says to focus on your passwords.“If you are updating your passwords and using unique passwords, that’s the safest way to address this,” Kneip says.He also suggests turning on the dual-factor notification on Facebook.
