They can include excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness or bright red gums, refusal to walk further, collapse, shaking, shock and seizures. If your dog suffers any of these symptoms, stop, preferably in the shade, and offer water. On an 85-degree day, a car can reach 102 degrees in 10 minutes and soar upward to 120 degrees –even with the windows down an inch or two. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Schools across San Diego County can reopen for in-person learning if they choose to on Tuesday, Sept. 1, as long as our COVID-19 case rate stays low enough through Sunday, Aug. 31.The county will be providing free testing for all school employees, which is strongly recommended by the California Department of Public Health.“What we’re going to be doing is making testing available at over 20 County-coordinated sites,” said Supervisor Nathan Fletcher. “In addition to that, we’re working with the San Diego Office of Education to open additional testing sites regionally that will be dedicated to school staff.”County officials say testing for asymptomatic children is discouraged, but if parents feel the need to have their children tested, they should consult with their pediatrician.Eight to ten school districts plan to reopen within the next two weeks to one month, according to Dr. Paul Gothold, San Diego County Office of Education Superintendent.“If there’s 5% of positive cases identified in one school, then the entire school would need to shut down,” said Gothold.More than 100 schools, mostly private, applied for waivers to reopen for in-person learning. The county stopped accepting the waivers this week since all schools can likely reopen soon.“I feel confident that we’re ready to reopen,” said Holly McClurg, Superintended of the Del Mar Union School District. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego State University kicked off its 2020-21 school year Monday with almost all classes online in an attempt to keep students safe and prevent the spread of the coronavirus.While most classes are virtual this fall semester, there are many students who are still living on campus or having to go to school for other matters.Normally, SDSU would have about 7,500 students living on campus. As of the start of this school year, that number is down to 2,600.In addition to the lower number of students living on campus, the university created strict rules for moving in and having guests.The school is trying a positive messaging approach and hoping they can avoid outbreaks similar to what has happened at other colleges in the U.S.ABC 10News learned one SDSU student tested positive for the virus last week and is in self isolation.SDSU fraternities have imposed their own ban on social events this fall, and all recruitment events will be virtual with no in-person interaction.Fall sports have also been postponed due to the pandemic.The university is not testing students who arrive on campus, but testing is available on site.If students test positive or are exposed to COVID-19, SDSU has a detailed isolation and quarantine plan in place.As if having to deal with the pandemic wasn’t enough for SDSU -- students ABC 10News talked to weren't aware of the nationwide Zoom outages Monday, as classes were just beginning, and the school did not immediately responded as to whether the issues affected any of the first day's classes. 1562

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is alerting students who may have been exposed to meningococcal meningitis.The university says they were notified that a current student has a “probable case of meningococcal meningitis.”The university said in a tweet that it is immediately hosting two clinics for those who attended specific events with the student. The events were the Delta Sigma Phi Formal, held Friday, April 12, from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Spark Encore Event Center; and the Delta Sigma Phi Social Event, which was held Saturday, April 13, from 9:30 p.m. to Midnight, at the organization’s chapter facility. Students who attended the events are urged to attend one of the two clinics that are being offered for free at SDSU. The most common symptoms of meningococcal meningitis are fever, headache and a stiff neck, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
