You're stressed out. You look around frantically, sure that the walls are closing in on you. There appears to be no way out. You look around and see friends and loved ones trapped in a similar situation, and wonder not only how you all wound up in this mess, but why it was that you actually paid to put yourself in this situation. So where are you, an escape room? Not quite. You're in "Escape Room." The movie. Your plight is the accumulation of questionable choices, and your price is being stuck in a bizarro, idiotic mess for nearly two hours.Game over. You lose.A movie that only wound up in theaters because it's the first Friday of the year — the ninth batter slot of the movie world — "Escape Room" manages to meet lowered expectations and somehow manage to slide right below them. Its C-level stars swap insipid one-liners, perish in a sloppy mess of mediocre special effects and struggle to solve puzzles that range from slap-you-in-the-face obvious to head-shakingly obtuse. Playing like a second-rate "Saw" sequel, it stretches its this premise until it snaps, taking your attention along with it.Escape rooms are famous for taking groups of friends and loved ones and transforming them into bitter enemies who can no longer stand the sight of one another. Their obtuse, teamwork-oriented puzzles have a dastardly way of breeding distrust and contempt in the name of "team building."It's only natural that a movie based on the concept would be similarly sinister and counterproductive. Moviegoers expecting something coherent and competent will leave the theater bitter and unfulfilled. Tyler Labine, Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Taylor Russell, Logan Miller and Nik Dodani play the hapless contestants who find themselves tricked into taking part in a real-life escape room series that promises ,000 to the winners. Second prize, they quickly learn, is swift, grisly death. These sure aren't the sort of rooms you'll find down at the local strip mall. Contestants are torched, dropped, gassed and electrocuted, usually due to their own idiocy. You start to feel guilty for rooting for the escape room itself, rather than any of the dopey characters.Worse still, director Adam Robitel and his screenwriters go for a twist ending that succeeds in unpredictability only because it's so incomprehensible. By the time the finale hits -- and it makes impact with a thud -- you're so worn out that you're not even annoyed by the inanity. You're simply grateful the end credits are at hand, and with it your sweet escape.RATING: 1.5 stars out of 4 2568

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students at National University tried to absorb a seismic announcement Tuesday: a 0-million gift from philanthropist T. Denny Sanford. The donation is the largest ever for any school in the county. The San Diego-based school will be renamed Sanford National University beginning in July."Putting National University on the national scene. That’s what it is," said Sanford at an announcement with school officials. School officials hope the gift will allow them to double the student population within a few years and climb the national rankings by investing in digital technology, lower-priced classes, and marketing. They're also hoping to slash the annual tuition in half, down to the ,000 to ,000 range. No timetable for the tuition drop was given."Amazing. People struggling with the debt. Won't be as big a burden. It's a significant amount," said nursing student Kyra Storkerson. 920

"So I tried it and I really loved it! Like I was like, oh my gosh! My hair feels really good! They have a men's line and a kids' line so the whole family can use it -- like I was very excited!"But Erin Ostby's excitement quickly faded when she says her hair began falling out after using the Monat hair products she'd been selling."I was crying to my husband, not just over my hair, but what had I done?"  She's what Monat calls a Market Partner -- someone who sells their shampoo and other hair care products on the company's multi-level marketing platform, which is mostly through social media.  RELATED: Women claim Monat hair products causing balding, scalp soresBut the young mother had to walk away from an increasingly lucrative business when she says she could no longer stand by the products."I was very nervous to say anything because of the backlash I have seen of other people that spoke out about what was happening."In three recently filed class action lawsuits against Monat, the company is accused of using strong-arm legal tactics to silence critics."We have to do that to protect ourselves from defamation," said Monat spokesperson Gene Grabowski, who would only agree to a phone interview. Toni Miller is one of the stylists Monat is suing for defamation."What I am seeing with this product in particular, it's not normal," Miller observed after working with clients who'd used Monat.Monat claims people like Miller are engaged in a smear campaign designed to promote competing products.  In their suit against her, they report 1,000 order cancellations in the last two months."When we tried to reason with our attackers who were bullying people online, bullying some of our market partners, bullying other customers and ridiculing them for using our product, we had to file a lawsuit to protect ourselves from the attacks," Grabowski said. But Miller says Monat is the bully. The company sent a letter to Posare salon, threatening to sue the owner if she didn't silence Toni or fire her.  As for consumers, Grabowski says, "Everyone is entitled to their opinion. By the way, there is not a constitutional right to complain about a company. A company has a right to respond any way it wants to." The Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Review Fairness Act "Protects consumers' ability to share their honest opinions about a business' products, services or conduct in any forum, including social media."  But that's not enough. This request for a restraining order against Monat was filed March 7 in South Florida, asking a court to protect consumers against Monat's "Threats, harassment and intimidation."Monat says one stylist has agreed to pay them to settle its claims against her.  Miller is still fighting.  Monat sent this statement for consumers: "If a consumer feels that he or she is having a negative reaction to MONAT products, we encourage them to speak with their Market Partner to obtain an intake form. The consumer can also contact MONAT Customer Service.   3109
