SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Freeway improvements will force westbound Interstate 8 to close this week.The westbound portion of I-8 at State Route 163 will close Wednesday at 11 p.m. until Thursday at 5 a.m. as part of an I-8/I-5 interchange improvement project, according to Caltrans.Westbound traffic on I-8 will be detoured onto northbound and southbound SR-163. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- From termite infestations to leaky pipes and AC units, some students at San Diego State University say their on-campus housing complex is “abysmal” even though it costs hundreds of dollars more per month than newer apartments just steps away.Shortly after moving into Aztec Corner, sophomores Hanna Bengard and Kalie Slivkoff said they had issues with electricity, a leaky A/C unit and spiders. It's the Port of San Diego's first comprehensive update in nearly 40 years, aiming to reflect changes in the needs and priorities of the region. The Port manages 34 miles of San Diego Bay and Waterfront along Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City, and San Diego. When the Port published the proposed master plan in April, several communities voiced major concerns; two of the most vocal being Coronado and Point Loma residents. "We have this little slice of history, and I think it's our obligation to preserve, so it's enjoyed generations to come," said Cameron Lilley, a multi-generational Point Loma native.For months, Lilley has been garnering community support in opposition to some of the proposals impacting Shelter Island. "We started digging into it and quickly realized that there were so many points that really didn't consider the locals in the restructure of our community," said Lilley. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Due to struggling ridership, the City of San Diego has been busy creating a plan to revamp its bikesharing program.On Wednesday staff will provide an update on improvements made and future plans, in response to a grand jury report in 2016.The program, DecoBike, is privately owned but works in partnership with the city.Critics of the program say it has not met the city's needs due to where stations were built.Last year a county grand jury report titled "San Diego's Bikesharing Program Needs Help," outlined ways the city and DecoBike could improve to better serve the community.One recommendation was to put more stations in beach communities, even though local business owners and residents protested them being there.Since then, the city has done the opposite, removing 14 stations from beach communities.City spokesperson Katie Keach says the city and DecoBike are concentrating on increasing the number of stations in the urban core.By doing this, they believe it will provide for a comprehensive system to increase alternative transportation options. They say it will also help the city meet its Climate Action Plan goals.Keach says they hope to have additional stations in North Park, Uptown, Golden Hill and downtown this winter.The city is conducting presentations to community planning groups this fall, seeking public input.Bicycle and climate activists want the program to succeed, saying it's critical to the city's Climate Action Plan. 1486

According to figures from AAA, the price for a gallon of gas gone up more than 50 cents in less than a month. AAA also says that the price has risen for 21 consecutive days and 27 of the last 28 days in San Diego County. California's gas tax is also set to increase by 5.6 cents on July 1, 2019. Meanwhile, the national average for a gallon of gas Monday was .74.AAA says a series of refinery issues reduced gas supplies.Bloomberg Phillips 66 refinery in Los Angeles, and Chevron Corp.'s El Segundo plants all experienced shut downs and stalls in oil production due to various problems.
