(KGTV) -- Police are investigating two violent incidents that occurred at Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch Town Center in recent weeks.The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they try to find the people suspected in a stabbing incident on Sept. 25 and an assault on Oct. 2 that happened at the mall on 2015 Birch Rd.In the Sept. 25 incident, at around 6 p.m., two people were approached by a group of four people, and then “three of the subjects began assaulting one of the victims,” police said.Police said one victim was stabbed in the back of the leg and had their backpack stolen. The other victim was not hurt, but one of the assailants took their cell phone.According to police, the incident was captured on video and shared on social media. The suspects in this case were described by police as Black male juveniles.In the Oct. 2 incident, a person was with friends at the mall when he was approached by about eight juveniles. Police said, “One of the suspects then punched the victim and a second suspect stole the victim’s Boston Red Sox baseball hat. CHULA VISTA (KGTV)-- It was back to school--virtually--for the Sweetwater Union High School District. They are the first school district in the county to start the year.Some parents said the one issue they ran into was technical problems. Gina Chavez, a mother of three and an elementary school teacher, said two of her three kids dealt with issues getting started. She said day one was "crazy."“My daughter started the day without an advisory class and no code for her science class,” Chavez said.Her other daughter couldn’t log onto her iPad, issued by the school district. “We had to scramble. I got my work computer, was able to log her on that way. [I] had to do a trouble ticket.”Two of her children have special needs and are on IEPs, individualized education programs. There still some question about how that will be handled in a remote environment.“I still haven’t heard anything as far as how they are going to specifically address his goals. I’m still waiting and if I don’t hear by the end of the week, I will be reaching out to figure that out,” Chavez said.A district spokesperson said roughly 9,400 devices were distributed last week. The majority of students were able to hold on to their devices from last year.Regarding technical problems, spokesperson Manny Rubio acknowledged the issues, but said the “issues are being resolve fairly quickly.”“It seems as though the great majority of students were logged in and had access to their classes,” Rubio wrote in an email to ABC 10News. “We do have our IT staff as well as school site staff available to answer questions and resolve issues.”Under the distance learning model, students are block schedules with three classes per day. There will be 30 to 45 minutes of virtual face time with the student’s teacher. (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District Board unanimously passed a revised and balanced budget for the 2018-2019 school year.It comes after they discovered a million accounting mistake. The budget did not take into account staff raises.The budget changes are a combination of spending freezes, furloughs, as well as money received from education grants and funds.The revised budget freezes several positions currently open.It also puts district officials on furlough days. “Based on your level of management we’re asking for different days there. So it’s a scale based on your positions. Our superintendent, for example, is gonna be doing ten furlough days this year,” Manny Rubio, a district spokesman, said.The district also worked with the unions, so teachers will give up two so-called ‘training days,’ which are paid, non-classroom days.The budget also touches on other cost-saving measures, including energy conservation strategies, consolidating summer school sites and cutting back on faculty travel expenses.The budget will head to the San Diego County Office of Education, which has until Nov. 8 to approve it. 1188
