Immunotherapy has gained ground against a stubborn opponent: ovarian cancer. A personalized cancer vaccine is safe and may lengthen the lives of ovarian cancer patients, a small clinical trial found.The research, published Wednesday in the journal Science Translational Medicine, showed "significantly higher" overall survival at two years among patients who received the vaccine, compared with patients who did not.Ovarian cancer is a "silent killer" because often it goes unnoticed until it is diagnosed at a late stage. Treated with surgery followed by chemotherapy, most patients -- 85% -- relapse and ultimately develop resistance to the chemo. At this point, they run out of treatment options.Still, scientists are hopeful based on the fact that a subset of patients shows an immune response to their cancer. (KGTV) — Mar Vista High School operated under heightened security Tuesday due to a possible threat.Instruction continued in classrooms but Mar Vista's doors were kept locked as part of the security measures, according to Manuel Rubio, public information officer with Sweetwater Union High School District.The campus resumed normal operations just before 1 p.m.The school district was working with the San Diego Sheriff's Department to investigate a possible threat posted to social media, Rubio said.The threat was later determined to be unfounded, though the campus would have increased security through the day, according to Rubio. 679

Hundreds gathered at a house party in Howell Township on Sunday, less than a week after New Jersey tightened indoor gathering restrictions because of an increase in the rate of coronavirus transmission.Local police asked for help from Wall, Brick, Jackson, Freehold, Monmouth, and Ocean County Sheriffs and State Police because of the large number of people at the party. There were about 300 people at the party."Most of the attendees are compliant," police said.
