COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kanye West, who is currently making an independent bid for the presidency, won't appear on the ballot in Ohio due to some irregularities involving his petition to run for office.According to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, West and his running mate, Michelle Tidball, "failed to meet the requirements necessary to appear on the presidential ballot in Ohio for the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election."Specifically, information and the signature on West's nominating petition and statement of candidacy didn't match up to the documents used to circulate part-petitions, LaRose said.Click here to view West's nominating petition and declaration of candidacy forms.In order to appear on the ballot, West would have had to file a "valid and sufficient joint nominating petition and statement of candidacy that complies with the law and at least 5,000 valid signatures from Ohio voters and a slate of 18 presidential electors," according to LaRose."A signature is the most basic form of authentication and an important, time-honored, security measure to ensure that a candidate aspires to be on the ballot and that a voter is being asked to sign a legitimate petition," LaRose said. "There is no doubt that the West nominating petition and declaration of candidacy failed to meet the necessary threshold for certification."West likely won't appear on the ballots in enough states to even qualify for the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Hotel del Coronado is suspending hotel operations amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Coronado Times reports. According to the times, the temporary suspension will go into effect Thursday, March 26. The hotel told the Times that security will be on-site around the clock to ensure the protection of the historic site. CLEVELAND — As we’ve seen throughout this pandemic, people on both sides of the mask debate are passionate about where they stand.“It’s very sad that this has become a political issue,” said Sharona Hoffman, a professor of Law and Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University.On Wednesday night, an order from Governor Mike DeWine will take effect, requiring masks in public settings in parts of Ohio, including Ohio's three largest cities of Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Ohio, unlike a number of other states, does not have a statewide mandate on wearing masks. The move sparked increased chatter around the claim that these mandates infringe on the rights of Americans.“This shouldn’t be about people’s liberties,” said Hoffman.Government mandates are nothing new.“We have to pay taxes, we have to abide by the speed limit,” said Hoffman.During this pandemic, regulations requiring masks are no different and totally appropriate, according to Hoffman.“This type of regulation is legal, constitutional and very, very sensible,” said Hoffman.One of the main responsibilities of elected officials is to ensure the health and safety of those they serve.“It wouldn’t make sense to even have a government if their hands were tied and they couldn’t take these measures,” said Hoffman.Hoffman said people should be willing to mask-up on their own and not be told to do so.“This should be something that people are very willing to do not only to protect themselves but also to protect other people,” said Hoffman. CINCINNATI -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a shipment containing nearly 6 pounds of liquid heroin packaged in shampoo bottles earlier this month.The package was listed as "massage oil," authorities said in a news release. It was shipped from Morelos, Mexico and was being sent to a home in the Bronx, New York when officers intercepted it at a cargo facility in Cincinnati on Oct. 11.The same day, officers also found four shipments of cocaine, each more than 4 pounds, being shipped from various Central American countries to people in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York, Customs and Border Protection said in a news release."These types of seizures exemplify our officers' dedication to the CBP mission of intercepting dangerous and illegal narcotics," Joshua Shorr, the Cincinnati port director, said.
