However, they may not be as interested in discovering things as they once were.“We know that dogs can become much more mellow,” said Alex Blutinger, Crical Care and Emergency Specialist at Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital. “They can become less active, less interested in other animals and other environmental factors around them.”In comparison to humans, there's less of a need for dogs to change their personality over time.Dogs only need to meet basic criteria in order to function.Their prime time for development is between puppy age and 7 years old.“You could deduce from it that if your dog has good habits, up until the age of 7, they might retain those habits for the rest of their lives because at that point, it hits their maximum maturity level. At the same time, bad habits might stick as well,” said Blutinger.If you're looking to adopt a puppy, be aware they likely won't be the same dog 10 years down the road. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV)— The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is looking for a mother of two accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her children’s school. Last week, the department’s financial crimes division issued a public warrant for 30-year-old Kaitlyn Faith Birchman for felony embezzlement.Birchman was the President of the Imperial Beach Charter School’s PTA, until she was voted off the board in March. Months before, board members said they began noticing a lack of funds.“There were thousands of dollars that hadn’t been paid,” current PTA treasurer Elizabeth McKay said. McKay told 10News, she began connecting the dots last year when vendors from previous years continued to bill the PTA saying they hadn’t gotten paid. That’s when McKay, a former Coronado Police Department Sergeant began investigating. When she contacted the bank, they told her their account no longer existed. "We were very lucky that the bank was willing to work with us to put together a paper trail,” McKay said. “The checks she had written to herself and signed herself. ATM withdrawals that weren't anywhere near Imperial beach or had anything to do with a PTA event."In March, the board confronted Birchman. They had a Sheriff’s Deputy come to the board meeting to explain exactly what “embezzlement” meant."She [Birchman] said that it was just a misunderstanding,” McKay said. “It was a lot of blind faith that they thought if she says everything is okay, then everything must be okay."At the end of the meeting, Birchman was removed from the Board.Now the Sheriff’s department is looking for the woman they said stole directly from kids, forcing the PTA to cancel students field trips and special events. “I want her to think about her own kids. She needs to at this point, make things right by taking responsibility of her actions,” McKay said. “That's the best lesson that she can teach her own children. And to make herself a better person from here."Birchman’s children no longer attend Imperial Beach Charter school. McKay said with the generous support of the community and a large donation from General Mills Box Tops, this school year, the PTA is financially stable again. They also made it a point to make all transactions transparent to all members. 2269

In a vote Thursday night, the Milwaukee Public School board voted to end their contract with the Milwaukee Police Department. The 8,000 yearly contract allowed for the schools to have up to six officers available to respond to incidents on school grounds.Protesters were asking that the money go toward helping students in other ways. Students and parents expressed concerns about school leadership's willingness to call the police when something happened."We had senior pranks. I don’t think the police should have been called for our senior prank. Bringing eggs and toilet tissue to school. There shouldn’t be police outside of school giving us tickets for doing our senior prank,” said Madison Walker who attended Rufus King High School.Milwaukee has become the latest school district to end formal relationships with local police departments or stop school resource officer programs.In early June, the Minneapolis Public School Board voted unanimously to end their contract with Minneapolis police to have officers on campuses. Portland, Oregon followed soon after. Just last week, Denver, Seattle and two districts in the Oakland area voted to end their formal relationships with local police. Time Magazine reported the presence of officers on school campuses has increased in the last two decades, partially because of the increase in school shootings since the 1999 tragedy at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Prior to Thursday's vote in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Police Department issued a statement."We agree with the many voices from our community who believe that the funding should be reinvested into our public school system to support social services.
