SEATTLE, Wash. – Amazon is bringing its Prime Day back this October.The company says the two-day shopping event will now start at midnight PT on Tuesday, Oct. 13 and run through Wednesday, Oct. 14. It’s the first time the event is being held in the fall.Originally, the online event was scheduled for July, but it was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With the event later in the year, Amazon hopes it will help Americans prepare for the holidays.During the online event, Amazon says its Prime members can take advantage of “incredible” savings and “deep” discounts on over 1 million deals across many categories.Members can shop deals and top products for the holiday season, including toys, TVs, electronics, fashion, beauty, kitchen, home and Amazon devices. (KGTV) - A proposal to sell Alliant International University's land in Scripps Ranch has neighbors worried.Thursday, the San Diego Planning Commission will hear a proposal to re-zone 72 acres of land at the University to be used for low-to-medium residential. That would allow up to 700 homes to be built on the site. To re-zone, the Scripps Ranch Community Plan will need to be amended. The vote Thursday will be to begin the amendment process.People who live nearby say adding hundreds of homes would be a nightmare for traffic and a disaster for wildfire evacuations."We're not opposed to development, but not for development's sake," says Kristin Rayder, the President of the Scripps Ranch Fire Safety Council. "It has to be safe."Rayder and the Council voted to tell the Planning Commission not to approve change to the Community Plan. So did the Scripps Ranch Planning Group.They say Pomerado Road can't handle the extra traffic, neither can the Avenue of the Americas, which leads to the University and is shared by Thurgood Marshall Middle School."If you come out here in the morning on a school day, you see what the chaos is on this narrow little road here and why it would be unacceptable to have another thousand cars a day on this small road that goes right in front of the school with no sidewalks," says Wally Wulfeck, the Planning Group Chair.They're also worried about what could happen if a wildfire ever threatens the area.People who live nearby, like Wulfeck and Rayder, still have vivid memories of the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire. In both fires, the areas around Pomerado Road had to be evacuated."We were leaving our home and looking to the right, I saw a wall of fire," says Rayder. "That was Pomerado Road. I'll never forget that look.""My house was one of the last to burn," says Wulfeck. "I watched it on TV."In an email to 10News, the Alliant University Foundation, which owns the land, says the school will be moving to a new campus in the coming years, and they're still in the early stages of the plan to sell the land."The university is still leasing a portion of the property and buildings and will likely be a tenant for a few more years under the current agreements. The foundation which owns the property placed it on the market in January of 2018 and entered into an agreement with an interested party in the fall of last year. The proposed use of the land is planned by the buyer in such cases."10News has learned that KB Home is the "interested party" mentioned in the email. (KGTV) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection paid a staffing consultant million that has so far yielded two rank-and-file employees, a new federal watchdog report says.The Office of Inspector General says CBP signed a nearly 0 million contract with Accenture in November 2017, meant to hire 7,500 new workers across departments.But a year later, Accenture has hired two workers. “Accenture is nowhere near satisfying its 7,500-person hiring goal over the next five years,” the report says. “Further, CBP has used significant staffing and resources to help Accenture do the job for which it was contracted.”Accenture said in a statement it remains focused on fulfilling CBP’s exceptions. A CBP spokesperson says the agency takes issue with some of the reports findings, but acknowledged the contract has been a challenge. CBP says the .6 million to Accenture has gone to creating a hiring structure, an applicant care center, marketing and conducting various steps in the hiring process.“CBP is constantly working to strengthen its hiring capabilities to ensure staffing for critical frontline operations, while maintaining our high personnel standards,” the CBP said in a statement. SANTEE — A group of Santee residents trying to gather enough signatures to force a public vote on the recently approved Fanita Ranch development say they are facing intimidation from the developer.Meanwhile, the developer says the signature gatherers are the ones acting unethically.The Santee group, called Preserve Wild Santee, has until election day to gather signatures from 3,500 registered city voters to force the Santee City Council to either rescind approval of the development, or send it to a public vote.On Sept. 23, the council voted 4-1 to approve the project, which calls for roughly 3,000 new homes, 80,000 square-feet of retail space, a school, a farm and public trails. Proponents say the project would provide homes to help with the county's severe housing crisis, while opponents say it would create too much traffic and increase wildfire danger.The homes would start in the 0,000s and could be available as soon as mid-2022."We're for reasonable growth and in the right places and in the right locations, not in an extreme fire hazard location," said Santee resident Janet Garvin, one of the signature gatherers.Garvin said, however, that people who come to sign the forms are being heckled by a project supportes, funded by developer HomeFed. He said they have been respectful, and are there to correct misinformation he says the signature gatherers about the project - namely about the improvements promised to Highway 52, and when it comes to tax increases. While there could be a Melo Roos fee on homeowners, O'Connor said there will be no tax increase on the general Santee population."They're being professional, they're getting the facts out, they're being courteous," he said.
