SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Right on the sanctuary walls of Christ Temple Apostolic Church in El Cajon, you will find a banner honoring our military and service. And service is a big part of the job for Bishop Donnie McGriff. “It’s not a job it’s not a profession. It’s a ministry. And that’s what I do. I love it,” says Bishop McGriff.And serve the Bishop has for nearly 60 years, starting right out of high school in the Navy. He served his community as a UPS driver. And for over 30 years, he has served in what he calls his ultimate role as the leader of his church. What was his calling?“I think I found out at an early age that my purpose or destiny was to serve,” says Bishop McGriff with a smile.The Bishop serves in so many ways with his congregation. They collect food for the less fortunate. He even founded a Christian based University focusing on Theology and Entrepreneurship. But the military has always been very close to Bishop McGriff’s heart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Results of an audit show the City of San Diego has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in liability claims.From 2010 to 2018, the city had 20,000 liability claims, which has resulted in 0 million in public liability costs. That translates to about million per year to settle or resolve these claims.At the top of that list, as far as the number of cases, involves city vehicle accidents with 2,075 claims, where the city paid .7 million. Also included in this list are trips and falls, with 931 claims and the city paid .7 million towards those liability costs.The City Auditor’s Office also made recommendations to reduce the number of claims. When it comes to trips and falls, they suggested the city focus on fixing the sidewalks in high pedestrian areas. Their data has found people are four times as likely to trip and fall in those areas of the damage to the sidewalk.When it comes to accidents involving city drivers, they believe there needs to be more training for them.The report will now be forwarded over to the City Council for review. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a door-to-door solicitor who has prompted a string of complaints about threatening outbursts and who was seen on video taking swings at a woman in Pacific Beach.Corey Lamont Terry, 45, is wanted on felony charges of making criminal threats and attempted burglary, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. A warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month, according to the Sheriff’s Department website.Police have been investigating Terry since at least early November, after “several” people complained about Terry’s aggressive language while soliciting money door-to-door, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.Takeuchi urged the public to call their local police agency if they spot Terry, who is about 6 feet tall and weighs roughly 220 pounds. He said residents should not approach him based on his past behavior.Terry has canvassed neighborhoods in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach in recent weeks, claiming he is raising money for charity. But several people told 10News he becomes aggressive when his requests for funds are denied.In one case, Sarah Jarzabek said Terry threatened to kill her after she declined his requests for money.VIDEO: Woman records confrontation with man claiming to be charity worker"He chases me across the street, screaming that he's going to kill me," Jarzabek told 10News last month.She recorded video of a man police identified as Terry lunging and swinging at her Nov. 2."Scared to death, honestly," she said.10News obtained video of San Diego police detaining Terry Nov. 3. He was questioned and let go at the time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County leaders have stressed education over enforcement regarding the rules and laws surrounding the coronavirus, but there are laws in place to help stop the spread."There is civil liability and criminal liability," says Professor Joanna Sax from the California Western School of Law.Sax says many of the laws rely on a standard called "reasonable care" to determine liability."As long as you are taking precautions reasonably, then it's unlikely that you'll be held negligent. That would be the legal term," Sax says.For businesses, that means following the rules like posting a safe reopening plan and sticking to it to keep customers safe. It can also mean providing PPE and hand sanitizer for employees.But for businesses that aren't using "reasonable care," San Diego officials have shown the ability and willingness to use the laws to force compliance.One of the most prominent cases over the last few months involves Boulevard Fitness in University Heights. According to the city, that gym stayed open for indoor workouts for 45 days, violating the county's rules. City Attorney Mara Elliott threatened Boulevard Fitness with a ,500 fine for each day, citing "unfair business practices."The gym closed after receiving Elliott's letter and has since reopened while obeying county guidelines for capacity and distancing.Sax says those kinds of laws work for extreme cases, but may not apply for smaller violations."If businesses are not behaving reasonably and they are behaving recklessly, and they have no plans, and they're letting people in, maybe they should face liability," Sax says. "Those aren't the businesses that should be open to the public. They're doing a disservice to the rest of the community."As for individuals infecting other people, the California Health and Safety Code has strict standards.According to Section 120290, five things all need to happen for someone to be guilty of "intentional transmission."The Code says: 1988

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans have every opportunity to get moving as the new year gets underway.America's Finest City was recently ranked by financial website WalletHub as the ninth most active city in the U.S. The study examined 100 cities around the country, comparing them on metrics including the presence of fitness centers and sports facilities, costs of fitness memberships, trail availability, and share of inactive adults. The metrics were then organized under either "budget and participation" and "sports and outdoors."San Diego ranked first in fitness centers and sports centers per capita, seventh in baseball and softball diamonds per capita, 22nd in basketball hoops per capita, 16th in parkland acres per capita, and 30th in walking. Those rankings brought the city's budget and participation rank to 27 and sports and outdoors rank to eight.RELATED: 7 unique workouts in San Diego to start the year strongChula Vista was also ranked on the study, though at a distant 79, ranking 25th in budget and participation and 87 in sports and outdoors.So where is the most active city located, according to WalletHub?
