SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Local community activists put together a report that shows what they’re calling the roadmap to racial inequality, basing it on housing data from the 1930s.On Thursday morning, members of the community used red paint to outline zoning lines of the streets of Kensington. The lines were a physical representation of what happened after the Great Depression under the order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.Ricardo Flores, executive director of Local Initiatives Support Corporation, said, “The very benign use of zoning actually created segregation this day. It says if you can buy 7,000 square feet of land then you can live in this neighborhood.”Flores’ group and other organizations took to the streets to promote the data.“Today, in this day and age, you can ask a high school kid, ‘Where do black and brown people live?’ You ask any adult, ‘Where do black and brown people live? How do they know that? How is it so embedded in us?” said Flores. The activists hope to get support from San Diego officials and a promise in changing the way housing decisions are made.Flores said, “They should look at that parcel of land and allow them to be subdivided, sold, or build on it and rent it out.” 1221

The new restaurant plans to open in Fall 2019.The on-site brewery will give Puesto the opportunity to develop their own beer program, after collaborations with San Diego and Mexico breweries for years, in addition to its signature margaritas and cocktails.“The Puesto team has been doing cervecería collaborations for years now, working primarily with cervecerías in Mexico to create our own San Diego meets Mexico cervezas," Puesto co-owner Eric Adler said. "We’ve been looking for a space in San Diego for some time where we could develop our own cerveza program. This new space gives us the opportunity not only to brew, but continue bringing our innovative approach to authentic Mexican flavors to more of our hometown.”Puesto currently operates six restaurants around California, offering a variety of handmade tacos, bowls, and street food-style plates. 1525

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Life in San Diego is expensive. Most people would like to have more money, but they don’t always like talking about it. 10News is exploring solutions in our coverage of Making It in San Diego. The fear can grow when retirement comes closer. “You wake up and it’s already gone, and I’m in my early 60s and all of a sudden you have to plan for these things,” says Bob Bishop, who is close to retirement age. RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Not all 401Ks are equalThe SDFLC is a nonprofit group offering help to people at every stage of life, free of charge. “Planning, figuring out what it is you want to accomplish is the most important thing you can do,” says Chase Peckham, Director of Community Outreach at the SDFLC.Through programs like “Smart with your Money” and “Boost for our Heroes”, the center tailors its financial advice to the customer’s needs. RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Woman climbs out of 3,000 debt holeThe hardest part of the planning is asking for help. “We’ll hire somebody to come help us in our yard, we'll hire somebody to come fix our plumbing, so why not get help from financial experts and they see it every single day.” Experts offer one key tip to get started: pay yourself. “That way you know every single month what's leftover. You don't have to put away because you've already put away the amount you want to put away.” 1387

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It’s no surprise to those of us who live in San Diego: America’s Finest City is the finest city for recreation. San Diego was the best in the nation in categories like bike rental facilities per capita (1st), parkland as a percentage of city area (7th), music venues per capita (17th), and percent of population with walkable park access (33rd), according to the Wallet Hub study. "Though it's not among the most affordable cities, San Diego is this year's best city for recreation as it offers plenty of choices in terms of parks, tourist attractions and public beaches,” said Jill Gonzalez, Consumer Finance Analyst. “Other things that make San Diego a good destination are its food festivals, recreational centers, cuisine and wine tours." Other top cities included Las Vegas, Orlando, Honolulu, and Tampa. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In three weeks San Diego County will elect its next district attorney,  and in a recent poll a large number of voters indicated that they're still undecided. The results of our scientific 10News Union-Tribune poll shows the battle between Summer Stephan and challenger Genevieve Jones-Wright is wide open. If the election were held today, Summer Stephan would get 35 percent of the vote. Genevieve Jones-Wright would get 22 percent and 43 percent of those polled said they are undecided. "Those polls are consistent with what our campaign research shows," Jones-Wright told 10News. "We knew we were up against a political machine and it really is no surprise to me that she's up on the polls."Progressive candidate Jones-Wright says Stephan got a head start, by being appointed to the district attorney job when Bonnie Dumanis left. Jones-Wright said she thinks the poll shows her campaign is gaining steam.Stephan was encouraged by the poll numbers. "This is very encouraging, what you're telling me, because it shows that what we're doing is working," she told 10News. "That San Diegans are enjoying that we're one of the safest urban regions in the country and that they really prefer experience over an experiment."The poll shows that Stephan's voter base is republican, white and over the age of 35. It shows that Wright's voter base is younger, more racially mixed and primarily democratic. On Monday, Summer Stephan pulled out of a community forum, one which both she and Genevieve Jones-Wright accepted to face off. 1581
