SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman was injured illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, a Border Patrol official said Saturday.The woman, a Guatemalan citizen, had one child with her whose age was not disclosed, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Eduardo Olmos said.Agents found her and the child around 8:25 p.m. Friday in an area east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A person was killed today during a multi-vehicle traffic crash on the Interstate 15 Express in San Diego.The crash on the southbound route, north of Carmel Mountain Road, occurred at about 7:40 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.The crashed involved at least four to five vehicles, the CHP said.There was no other immediate information. 372

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - County health officials announced Thursday that flu activity remained steady over the last week but confirmed flu cases are still three times what they were at this time last year.The county's Health and Human Services Agency confirmed only 36 flu cases over the last week, bringing the county's 2019-2020 flu season case total to 335. The county had confirmed 109 cases at this time last year.Only two residents have died due to flu complications since the county's flu season started July 1. At this time last flu season, the county had not recorded a flu death.County health officials expect flu cases to spike as the year approaches the holiday season and gets deeper into autumn and winter."The holiday season is right around the corner," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "With family and work gatherings coming up and people taking part in holiday activities, now is the time to get your flu shot to make sure you avoid getting sick and spreading the virus to others."County health officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly advise the annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older, especially in demographics with a heightened risk of serious complications like pregnant women, people with chronic medical conditions like lung disease and people age 65 or older.Residents can take precaution against contracting the virus by frequently washing their hands, cleaning commonly touched surfaces and avoiding contact with sick people. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. She was contacted and returned to the scene, where police determined she allegedly was driving under the influence.She was arrested and booked in the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.Detectives also interviewed Nunez-Jaramillo's two passengers, who were released, Underwood said. 1468

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Brutal temperatures and a heat advisory are expected to continue through Monday in San Diego County, according to the National Weather Service.Building high pressure over the southwestern United States have ushered in scorching temperatures for the next five to six days, forecasters said.The NWS issued an excessive heat warning that will be in effect from noon today to 9 p.m. Monday in the county valleys, mountains and deserts.RELATED: Eight cool zones open through Friday in San Diego County as temperatures soarThe NWS urged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. The mercury in the western valleys is forecast to top out in the low-to-mid 90s through Wednesday as well, while highs near the foothills will remain in the mid-to-high 90s through at least Thursday.Borrego Springs set a high temperature record on Thursday, according to the NWS.
