(KGTV) -- The family of a La Mesa woman says their mother in a medically induced coma after getting shot with a projectile that lodged between her eyes.Leslie Furcron was among thousands of people protesting Saturday night in front of the La Mesa Police Department. She was recording on Facebook Live. You can hear her yelling, then the phone drops, and the screen goes black."She was brutally attacked on a peaceful protest. If I commit a crime. I'm going to jail, no if's and or buts about it," said one of her sons, Ahmed Furcron.He says bystanders rushed her to the hospital. Her prognosis is unclear, but the family says she may lose an eye.Attorney Dante Pride is representing the family. Pride and other family members held a news conference outside the La Mesa Police Department Tuesday. "We are going to get justice. We will not be silenced, everyone who is watching this I want you to call the La Mesa police department and ask them what is that officer's name who decided he could attempt to murder a non-violent protestor?" asked Pride.Pride says the police department hasn't provided any information about what happened. The family believes she was hit with a rubber bullet or bean bag casing, but they're waiting for the hospital to confirm.During the news conference, a reporter said they had witness information that Furcron through a bottle, but the family says that is absolutely false."I have no evidence that she threw anything, she dropped a can when she got shot," said Pride."Even if she did throw a can, does she deserve to get shot in the face, that's all we want to know," said Ahmed.Pride also points to the La Mesa Police Departments' own training rules, which say bean bag munitions should not be aimed above the waist. "Why is supposed to be below the waist, a shot above the chest can be fatal," said Pride.La Mesa Police have refused to talk to the media about the incident. 1931

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old died following a solo-vehicle crash in Lakeside late Saturday night. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Willow Road around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. CHP says the vehicle appears to have been traveling at “a high rate of speed” when the driver lost control, veered off the road and hit a large tree. Three passengers in the vehicle also received injuries ranging from moderate to major. Monday night, friends confirmed with 10News that a second teen, with major injuries, was taken of life support and his organs were donated to help save other lives. Friends identified the teens as Justin Kyte and Isaac Culkin, both 16-years-old.According to CHP, the right front passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to the hospital with major injuries. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Residents were told to shelter in place following a shooting in a La Mesa neighborhood Thursday evening. La Mesa Police tweeted Thursday evening that neighbors near Harris Street and Waite Drive needed to shelter in place just before 6:30 p.m. A little over an hour later, the department said residents no longer needed to shelter in place. According to police, a woman was shot inside a home in the neighborhood and was able to call police to report the incident. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say they are searching for a suspect, but have no description at this time. The neighborhood is located just off State Route 94 blocks away from Vista La Mesa Academy. 745

LAKE WALES, Florida — A 38-year-old man was arrested after being accused of shooting and killing another man on Thanksgiving Day in Polk County.Steven Nicholas Hunt, 38 of Winter Haven, is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after fatally shooting Stephen Edward Roberts, 45 of Lake Wales, in his home, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.Deputies said they responded to Roberts' home on Lake Buffum Road in Lake Wales and found him with a gunshot wound to his head after receiving a call, at approximately 2:30 p.m., from a woman who said she had dropped off Hunt at the Circle K gas station located at 7695 Highway 60 East in Bartow after the incident.According to an arrest affidavit, the woman told deputies she and Roberts initially drove to Hunt's house to take him to Walmart and then went to Roberts' home in Lake Wales afterward. While at Roberts' home, she said she showered, went into another bedroom after seeing the two talking in the master bedroom and then heard what sounded like a gunshot.Hunt initially told deputies he went to the Circle K with the witness but did not know of what happened at Roberts' home. He then said he 'suddenly remembered' he was with Roberts in his home when he was shot. In the arrest affidavit, Hunt goes on to say that he was talking with Roberts in his bedroom when tried to hand him a handgun and asked him to 'put him out of his misery.' Hunt said eventually Roberts told him to leave and close the door and as he was walking away he heard a gunshot.Later, during a clarifying interview, Hunt gave another description of the shooting to deputies. He said Roberts' ask him to shoot him and then showed him how to use the handgun. Hunt told deputies he took the handgun from Roberts, as Roberts laid down and put a pillow over his head, and shot him in the head before putting the handgun next to him on the bed.Deputies said Hunt told them "he believed he fired another shot at Roberts," after the witness told him he was still breathing and asked him to help him."While most people in the county were enjoying a holiday meal with their families and loved ones on Thanksgiving day, a senseless murder was taking place in Lake Wales. Our deputies, detectives, and crime scene investigators worked throughout the day and well into the night on this case. We are grateful that this violent convicted felon was taken into custody swiftly and without further injury to anyone else. Our condolences go out to the victim and his loved ones," said Sheriff Grady Judd.Hunt's criminal history includes 16 previous felony and 10 misdemeanor charges; 7 felony and 6 misdemeanor convictions; and numerous previous arrests for battery domestic violence, resisting arrest, burglary, larceny, grand theft of a firearm, dealing in stolen property, possession of meth, possession of marijuana. His most recent arrest was November 7, 2018, for battery domestic violence. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - One of the most elite schools in San Diego has finished investigating accusations of decades of sexual abuse. Investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner broke the story last July when several former students at The Bishop's School came forward about former school employees. The numbers have since doubled. The current tuition at the prestigious private high school is more than ,000 per year. It's been ten months since we reported on how the school was dealing with claims of abuse that spanned three decades. In a transparent move last year, the The Bishop’s School revealed that seven members of its alumni had come forward and described fifteen separate instances of misconduct. Five of those were first-hand accounts of sexual misconduct or boundary violations committed by a school employee.READ: The Bishop's School dealing with multiple claims of sexual misconduct spanning several decadesSince then, The Bishop’s School has been working to complete its investigation. It is now over and the numbers are up. The school report’s, “To date, 14 alumni have come forward to report incidents of sexual misconduct.” The school also reports, "Ten different perpetrators were identified as having engaged in sexual misconduct that would potentially constitute a crime at the time of occurrence." None of the accused are apparently still with the school and at least two are reportedly dead. The school reports that most of the cases were from the 1970s and 1980s. There were no reported cases within the last 20 years.The school declined an interview with 10News, but in a new letter to alumni, it reaffirms its commitment to student safety and apologies to everyone who was affected.The school has turned over ten cases to the San Diego Police Department and says it will notify the community if charges are filed against any of its former school employees. 1894
