Democrats concluded the second day of opening arguments in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump on Thursday.Thursday marked the second of three eight-hour sessions in which House impeachment managers will explain why they feel President Donald Trump should be removed from office. On Wednesday, lead impeachment manager Adam Schiff walked Senators step-by-step through Trump's dealings with Ukraine, in which Trump withheld foreign aid for weeks in the hopes that it would encourage new Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to open an investigation into one of his political rivals."(The president) does not, under our laws and under our constitution, have a right to use the powers of his office to corruptly solicit foreign aid, prohibited foreign aid, to help his re-election," Schiff said during his remarks Thursday.Watch Thursday's session below:Democrats claim Trump abused the power of his office by withholding military aid to Ukraine — a U.S. ally and a key part of the U.S.'s defense against Russia — in exchange for opening an investigation that would be politically advantageous to Trump.Trump pushed Zelensky to announce that publicly that Ukraine was opening an investigation into Hunter Biden — the son of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden — and his role as a board member for the Ukrainian energy company, Burisma. While he was vice president, Joe Biden pushed for the firing of Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was investigating Burisma. Obama administration officials maintain Shokin's firing was consistent with the U.S.'s strategy of rooting out corruption in Ukraine. During part of his remarks on Wednesday, Schiff pushed for Republicans to approve witnesses following opening arguments by both sides. "You should want the whole truth to come out. You should want to know about every player in this sordid business. It is within your power to do so," Schiff said. When setting rules for the impeachment trial, Republicans declined to include scheduled time for witnesses. Following opening arguments, senators most vote to approve additional witnesses with a majority vote. The Republican caucus currently holds a 53-47 advantage over the Democrat caucus, meaning four Republican senators would need to break party lines to approve witnesses. The Democrats' opening arguments will continue Friday when the trial resumes at 1 p.m. ET.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. Coca-Cola wants Americans to give Coke Energy a shot. The beverage company will start selling four varieties of its energy drink — Coca-Cola Energy, Coca-Cola Energy Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola Energy Cherry and Coca-Cola Energy Cherry Zero Sugar — in the United States in mid-January. Coke Energy and Coke Energy Zero Sugar are already available internationally, but the cherry flavor is new.The new product is designed to help Coke to introduce Coca-Cola drinkers, who may not consume energy drinks, to a growing category. It's also a way for the company to make sure that its core Coca-Cola brand remains fresh. But first, Coca-Cola has to make sure drinkers understand just what Coke Energy is.A boost of energyCoca-Cola Energy has 114 mg of caffeine in each 12-ounce serving. That's nearly four times the caffeine in a can of regular Coca-Cola (34 mg), and three times the caffeine in a can of Diet Coke (46 mg).It will be more expensive, too: Coca-Cola Energy will have a recommended price of .49 per 12-ounce container. Similarly-sized regular Cokes are generally sold in packs of 12, and cost about per package (about 33 cents each). In the United States, total energy drink and energy shot sales reached about .5 billion in 2018, up 30% from 2013, according to a report from research group Mintel. The sector could have sales of about billion in 2023, Mintel projects.Coke drinkers aren't really in on the trend, according to Coca-Cola Brand Director Janki Gambhir."Many consumers that drink Coke don't engage in the energy category today," she told CNN Business, noting that they still may be interested. "A lot of the work that we will do will be focused around educating consumers," she said.To figure out how to make Coke Energy work in the United States, the company spoke with more than 1,100 people — including energy drink consumers and those that don't regularly drink the beverage — to make sure that it delivers what people want. The company plans to introduce the product by advertising it through television commercials and billboards, as well as handing out samples. With Coca-Cola Energy, the company hopes to boost sales within the Coke brand rather than steal share from other energy drinks or Coke flavors. Coca-Cola owns about 18% of Monster Energy, and has a strategic partnership with the company. In addition to giving Coca-Cola another way into the energy sector, Coke Energy can help make sure people don't stop drinking Coke.Keeping Coke currentCoca-Cola has ambitions of being a "global beverage company." It sells iced tea, juice, water, coffee and smoothies. But Coke is its core business, and only a few years ago the Coke brand was stagnating. To boost the brand, Coca-Cola has given Diet Coke a millennial-friendly makeover, launched a new flavor and, for a limited time, brought back New Coke in partnership with Netflix's "Stranger Things." Coca-Cola Energy and Coca-Cola Plus Coffee, which is for now only available internationally, are more ways to keep people excited about cola.So far, Coca-Cola's efforts to revitalize its core brand seem to be working. Second quarter sales were driven in part by 4% global growth in trademark Coca-Cola, the company said. And international sales of Coke Energy are "encouraging," said CEO James Quincey in a July call discussing the quarter's financial results .Coca-Cola hopes that Coke Energy will be a continued source of long term growth, said Gambhir, adding that there is a "pipeline full of new flavors" and other innovations for the platform. 3543

CINCO RANCH, Texas – Investigators say a 29-year-old man was shot and killed by intruders who broke into his suburban Houston home. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says Brenton Estorffe was killed early Wednesday at his home in Cinco Ranch, a community 26 miles west of Houston.Sheriff Troy Nehls says Estorffe told a 911 operator that someone had broken a window in the back of his house. The man confronted the two intruders and was shot. The intruders then fled."The father woke up and confronted apparently two individuals, at which time there was some gunshots that were fired and the homeowner, a white male, is deceased inside the residence," said Nehls.Nehls says Estorffe didn't appear to be armed. His wife and two young children were not injured."It's sad, sad," said Nehls. "We have a homeowner now here in Fort Bend County who is no longer with us, and the father of two small children. Breaks your heart."Relatives said on social media that Estorffe was an Australian native. No arrests have been made and investigators haven't established a motive."It's a little unusual to have, not saying it doesn't happen but it's a little unusual for guys that are wanting to break into a home to steal a television or something to break into a house at midnight," said Nehls. "There were cars in the driveway." 1331

Coca-Cola is feeling the impact of COVID-19, better known as coronavirus. The company says the disease has already disrupted its supply chain, and artificial sweeteners from China could be in shorter supply if the outbreak continues.Coca-Cola announced Monday as part of their annual report that they have initiated contingent supply plans for the near future, and don't foresee any short-term impact."We do not anticipate a shortage of Diet Coke or Coke Zero related to sucralose because those products do not contain sucralose," Coca-Cola said in a statement. "We have initiated contingency supply plans for ingredients sourced from China, and we do not expect any impact to our customers or consumers at this time."In their annual report, Coca-Cola indicated that it considered sucralose — the sugar substiute used in products such as Powerade Zero and Diet Coke with Splenda — a "critical raw material" sourced from suppliers in the US and China, according to CNN. 979
