SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A beloved gorilla has died at the San Francisco Zoo & Gardens. The zoo says Zura, a 39-year-old Western lowland gorilla, was being treated for “long-term digestive issues” but her condition recently had worsened and she died Friday.Zura arrived in San Francisco in 1982 from the Columbus Zoo, where her grandmother was Colo. Colo, who died in 2017, was widely known as the first gorilla in the world to be born in captivity. Tanya Peterson, CEO of the San Francisco Zoological Society, says Zura “had a beautiful, distinctive face and a one-of-a-kind personality" and she will be missed. 620

San Diego (KGTV) One plate at a time, a San Diego couple is hoping to help those living on the streets with no food to eat. They’re using their new food trailer to do just that. ‘#FeedingEveryone’ is the goal for the Duwara Consciousness Foundation. “Our foundation is about serving anyone and everyone,” says co-founder Harisimran Khalsa. Through donations from the community, couple Davinder and Harisimran were able to purchase a food trailer to help feed the homeless. The couple says they’re committed to helping others. They left their jobs, sold businesses, and are now living a simpler lifestyle. “When your passionate about something, you have to live the life of and see how it is,” says Davinder Singh. “We decided that we would give up the house that we were living in.”The 16-foot trailer is equipped with a griller, 2 part stove, refrigeration and prep space. Every food item made is plant-based. Donations and volunteers strictly power the organization. They are serving at least two locations every week. They hope to grow the non-profit and eventually purchase a shower bus for the homeless.  The organization has partnered with the Jewish Family Service to feed the homeless on Thursdays and Fill-A-Belly to serve those in need on Tuesdays. SAN DIEGO — Football icon Drew Brees gave a Temecula, California teenager the gift of a lifetime this week.The New Orleans Saints QB surprised Alex Ruiz at a Del Mar flag football event with a prosthetic leg."Surprise," Brees yelled into a microphone.Ruiz suffered a severe leg injury while playing football in October 2017. The quarterback at Linfield Christian School in Temecula was rolling out of the pocket when he was tackled and injured. The injury forced an amputation of Ruiz's foot.Brees presented the teen with a walking prosthetic Friday."If there's anything above cloud nine that's where I'm at right now," Ruiz said, all smiles after Brees asked him what he planned to do first with his new prosthetic.Brees added that once Ruiz gets the hang of it, he'll receive an athletic prosthetic as well with which to begin athletic training. But that didn't stop the two quarterbacks from sharing a quick pass."It's going to allow him to walk around, get around, and then eventually get to the point where he's able to play football again," Brees said. (KGTV) - A fire on the USS Bonhomme Richard at Naval Base San Diego started Sunday morning and as of Monday afternoon, continues to burn, adding smoke to the sky and raising concerns over air quality in San Diego.Related: USS Bonhomme Richard fire: 57 treated for injuries after fire erupts aboard Naval Base San Diego shipBill Brick is the Chief of Monitoring and Technical Services Division at the Air Pollution Control District and said there are concerns in some areas but not everywhere. He said they have received reports of people smelling the smoke as far away as Oceanside and Escondido. According to Brick, those people who are farther away may be able to smell the smoke but the particulate matter is less concentrated, so it should not pose a health risk.He said the people who should be aware of health concerns are those nearby the fire who end up directly in the path of the smoke due to wind and also those with prior health concerns such as asthma, lung or heart problems. He said if anyone is close enough to smell the smoke and also gets irritated eyes, they should also be aware that there could be health risks. For any of those people, he advises to avoid exercise, go inside and close the windows to avoid breathing in that air.Brick also said that a problem with this fire is they don’t know exactly what has burned. While the Navy has said they are still within EPA standards, Brick said the focus has been on fighting the fire so it has been hard for them to determine everything that has burned. Brick said they did take samples of the air to see if anything toxic is in the air, but those results will not come back for a few days, so he advises everyone to use caution while the fire still burns. 1751

On and off rain Saturday morning had event organizers making tough decisions to cancel, while others decided to keep their events going, rain or shine. The Street Medicine Clinic for the Homeless at Balboa Park was canceled due to heavy rain Saturday morning. But the Northpark Arts Festival went on despite some sprinkles. By the afternoon, the clouds moved to the south, and thousands enjoyed the festival. 479
