(KGTV) -- The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station said Thursday they’ve had to ask people to stop donating after receiving an overwhelming amount of donations for the Holy Fire.According to a post on the station’s Facebook page, the donations have taken up so much space, deputies are running out of room to store the items.A photo shows boxes of snacks piled atop cases of water and Gatorade. Though the department appreciates the donations, they said they plan and prepare for events such as the Holy Fire, “so we are good!”The post went on to thank the community for their support. A 55-foot Christmas tree originating from Colorado’s Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests was lit on Wednesday night in front of the US Capitol.The annual ceremony, which typically draws thousands of spectators, was held without a crowd due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the event was live streamed, and still contained some pomp and circumstance as congressional leaders joined in the annual ceremony.The tree was officially cut on November 5 before making the cross-country trek to Washington, DC.While tonight’s ceremony was held without spectators, those who are in the DC area can view the tree nightly. The tree will be illuminated every evening from nightfall until 11 p.m. through January 1. 740

Apparently, that state of mind won't help Californians enjoy the best quality of life in the U.S.Despite our pristine beaches, famous cities, and awesome nickname (The Golden State really is a great one), Californians reportedly enjoy one of the lowest qualities of life, according to U.S. News and World Report's annual "Best States" rankings.The study ranks states on a variety of metrics, including quality of life, opportunities for residents, education, healthcare, economy, infrastructure, crime and corrections, and fiscal stability.RELATED: AAA's top rated restaurants, hotels in San Diego CountyOk, it's starting to make a little sense. Metrics are weighted based on what more than 30,000 participants indicated as the most important aspects of livelihood. Healthcare and education were the heaviest scores, followed by economy, opportunity, and infrastructure.Overall, the Golden State came in at 32, though scored last in quality of life and near last in opportunity and fiscal stability."In addition to a healthy environment, a person's quality of life is largely a result of their interactions with those around them," U.S. News wrote. The state ranked 44 for natural environment and 47 for social environment.Natural environment measured drinking water quality, pollution and industrial toxins, and air quality. (KGTV) -- Testimony will continue Tuesday in the preliminary exam for the suspected smuggler charged with murder after leading the border patrol on a wild, high speed chase that ended with the deaths of three of his passengers. It happened on westbound Interstate 8 near Boulevard on the evening of November 29th, 2018. Luis Virgen, 21, is a U.S. citizen who had been living in Tijuana at the time of the crash. He's charged with second degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter. Virgen is accused of smashing through a gate that leads into the U.S. from Mexico with 10 undocumented immigrants in his truck, including 9 in the bed of the truck under a tarp. Everyone but the driver was thrown from the truck when it crashed after hitting a spike strip deployed by the border patrol. Gregg Curtis testified that after the truck blew past him, he started shooting video with his cellphone in case something happened. Curtis can be heard talking under the cellphone video, which was played in court Monday. "I wouldn't be surprised if he totally crashes his brains out," said Curtis. He also testified about how fast the defendant was going."I was alarmed at a vehicle passing me at such a large rate of speed that it shook my truck," said Rieu. The border patrol received some criticism following the incident, some questioning why they didn't call off the chase given the wet roads and dangerous conditions at the time. Several agents testified that they had no idea that the truck's bed was hiding several undocumented immigrants. Another agent described how he tried to revive the victims. "Another individual, I cradled his head, he was moaning and groaning, and I told him he was going to be fine that it was just a scratch and to stay awake," said Agent Jahir Waterman. If convicted on all counts, Virgen could spend 45 years to life in prison. 1970
