SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jurors have reached their verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing a Navy sailor on a Logan Heights freeway ramp in 2018.Edson Acuna, 26, was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, and several other charges in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Curtis Adams on Oct. 27, 2018. Adams was driving on I-15 at about 2 a.m., when he came upon what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. As Adams got out of his vehicle to check on the car's occupants when he was shot.Prosecutors say Acuna and three others had burglarized a Mt. Hope home that night, before getting into a shootout with the home's residents. As they fled, one of their vehicle's tires were shot out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Inside a mobile machinist shop, the Marine Corps can now print polymer and metal parts on the go.Operated by the 1st Marine Logistics Group, the Expeditionary Manufacturing Shelter is currently at Camp Pendleton. It houses several 3D printers which each serve a specific purpose."Digital manufacturing can be extremely useful in a combat situation or a disaster zone because we can take this shelter and deploy it to anywhere it's needed. We're able to provide parts that are not readily available, and we're able to get our equipment operational faster," said Staff Sgt. Samuel Margarini.Rather than ordering a part and waiting up to a week, the Marines can re-create a part within 24 hours, improving readiness and operational momentum.3D printing new parts is also cheaper and saves resources. "Since implementation we've had a huge impact on different platforms, we've made parts for trucks, humvees, tanks, and some drones," said Margarini. While only being used in training, for now, shelters like this will eventually be deployed where needed by the Marine Corps. 1098

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It's a new twist on Black Friday shopping. Customers are flocking to buy ammunition before a new California gun law goes into effect. It’s called the “1 million round month.” Just a few hours after opening its doors, Poway Weapons and Gear Range sold half of their 1.2 million rounds of ammo. “Today is a direct reflection of the law,” says Danielle Rudolph, Director of Sales at Poway Weapons and Gear Range. “People are trying to stock up and save up now that way they don’t have to worry about it next year.” The new law starting in July says in addition to a gun permit, gun owners will have to pass another background check to buy ammunition. Retailers will then have to log the amount of ammo gun owners purchase in a database. The records will be sent to the Department of Justice. When asked about the store’s large sale, Ron Marcus with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence said in part: “The bottom line is regardless of how people try to prepare themselves before the law goes into effect, majority of Californians voted on Prop. 63 that put these laws into effect."Store owners say they will order more ammunition for customers to purchase at a reduced price. The “1 million round month” sale will end December 31st.  1292

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mayor Kevin Faulconer is proposing new regulations for dockless scooters around the city.Faulconer, Council members Lori Zapf and Chris Cate, and representatives from the scooter companies held a press conference Monday morning at NTC Park, in Liberty Station to address growing concerns over the safety of dockless scooters. “We want to make sure that its safe, that there are clear rules of the road and regulations that make sense.”Faulconer is proposing to “geo-fence” certain areas around the city. Geo-fencing is remote technology that will limit scooter speeds to 8 miles per hour. The areas will include:  655

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It's been 13 years since Filirican Torres died after being hit by a car on the 94 Freeway, and her family says every passing holiday and anniversary brings the pain back to the forefront."It feels like someone is stabbing you in the heart over and over again," says sister Edy Torres.Friday is the anniversary of the death, which is still unsolved. Now the Torres family is asking anyone with information to come forward and help them get closure."Maybe they heard something in the last 13 years," says Torres. "Maybe they heard her name or something came up. Help us out."The family says Torres was thrown from a car on the freeway on January 10, 2007, and then hit by several other cars on the road. It happened on the Eastbound lanes of the 94 in between Euclid Avenue and Kelton. At the time, San Diego Police called the death "suspicious." In 2009, Crime Stoppers released a photo of a white Geo Metro as a suspect vehicle, but they never made any arrests."She was a loving person," Torres says of her sister. "When you met her she would put a smile on your face. She had this aura where you would just gravitate to her."As they have for years, the family is putting up posters around the area where the crash took place."It's been 13 years," says Edy. "Time hasn't healed anything. We just learn to cope with the pain."Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1424
