SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More victims have come forward, saying their financial advisor stole thousands of dollars in an alleged Ponzi scheme."He preyed on the elderly folks," said San Diego resident, Brian Taylor. Brian and his wife Sharon have been married for more than 50 years. Brian, a Navy veteran, said this is not how they planned to spend their retirement. "We enjoyed our lives. We don't enjoy our lives anymore," Brian said. Christopher Dougherty was their neighbor. Sharon said they knew their family well and often met for parties or gatherings over the years. They stated investing with Dougherty in the early 2000s. A few years ago, they moved money into his company C & N Wealth Management. The Taylors said Dougherty told them they were investing in tax-free municipal bonds. They learned later that was not true. "It was actually invested in heavy equipment," Brian said. "I couldn't believe it." They said it was all done without their knowledge. The couple learned about this just this past October. "He said, don't worry, you're getting your money back and we didn't know that was the day after he filed bankruptcy," Sharon said. The Taylors are the third couple Team 10 has interviewed regarding this alleged Ponzi scheme. Sharon and David Vega said Dougherty stole about ,000 from them. That money was meant to help their grandchildren when they go to college. "We have not received any funds back," Sharon Vega told Team 10.Diane and Jerry, who declined to use their last name, said Dougherty took more than million dollars from them, meant for their retirement. "We can't even afford a burial plot at this point," Jerry said. Late Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff's Department confirmed a criminal investigation into Christopher Dougherty with at least 30 potential victims. Bankruptcy attorney Larissa Lazarus is with the Law Offices of Mark Miller. Their firm represents 11 people in the Dougherty bankruptcy case. "They are all just good, really kind people who unfortunately trusted someone who was a licensed financial advisor and wasn't actually looking out for their best interest." She said she could not say whether or not it was elder financial abuse, but Lazarus said Dougherty was "doing things he was not supposed to be doing as a licensed financial advisor." In 2011, Dougherty was charged with a felony for taking thousands of dollars from a youth sports league. He ended up pleading guilty to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to three years summary probation. Records from the Department of Insurance showed that Dougherty "took somewhere between ,000 and ,000 from the League's bank account" when he sered as volunteer treasurer. In a letter dated April 19, 2012, Dougherty wrote to the Department: ".. due to extreme financial hardship and personal issues, I suffered a lapse in judgment that was fortunately resolved within a short period of time due to my efforts." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are looking for the thief who committed a brazen robbery at a South Park metaphysical shop, stealing a ,000 crystal ball in broad daylight in front of store staff and other customers.The theft occurred Monday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. at Crystal Blue Vibrations, San Diego Police said. "This was a lot worse than we thought," co-owner Andrew Lucas told 10News. "That's when we went to the video tape and it showed everything."The thief could be seen casually walking through the store, chatting with an employee behind the counter. He then walked over to the front display, which included several large crystal spheres. He reached in to grab an expensive one, but knocked over a shelf, leaving shattered glass all over and drawing the attention of the employee. However, it appears the employee did not realize the man was attempting to steal the item. While the employee was focused on cleaning up the mess, the the thief can be seen grabbing the crystal ball, placing it on the ground, dribbling it like a soccer ball to the front door, then bending over to pick it up and walk out. "I thought I'd seen it all," Lucas said. "Yeah, it's pretty brazen. It's heartbreaking."Lucas says he plans to limit how much access customers have to certain items in the future. "And more security, but I guess that's what the world is coming to."A police report has been filed. Nancy Sussman is no stranger to the courthouse. Usually, she’s representing her clients, but this time she’s defending herself against criminal charges that could send her to prison.Traffic backed up. Drivers snapping video of how the high speed chase ended. Police say Sussman finally stopped when they laid down spike strips. Still, they say she refused to come out of the car, eventually forcing them to smash out one of the windows.10News is learning new details about the woman behind the wheel of the white Mercedes. Sussman is a longtime medical malpractice attorney.RELATED: Woman arrested after leading police on chaseIn court Tuesday, she represented herself. “Are you an attorney,” the judge asked.The judge entered a not guilty plea on Sussman’s behalf. She’s charged with felony evading, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.Sussman tried to explain to the judge why she didn’t stop. “Regarding the chase, I was a victim of police brutality on October 28th.”According to a police report, the October 28 case involves Sussman and her neighbor, a Border Patrol agent. In that case, she’s charged with burglary, making criminal threats, vandalism and other charges.On December 30, police tried pulling her over on that warrant, finally arresting her after that chase on I-5.If convicted on the charges connected to the chase, Sussman faces more than six years in prison. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Point Loma families fighting to preserve a makeshift bike track are up against another setback.The land is owned by the San Diego Housing Commission, which recently hired an independent firm to do a feasibility study of the property. The firm looked at traffic, environmental factors, and the impact on schools; ultimately concluding it's feasible to build on the site. "Definitely heartbroken, this is such a special spot for our community," said Darren Miller, who often brings his boys to ride on the track. But Rick Gentry, President and CEO of the San Diego Housing Commission, says it's their job to create as much affordable housing in the city as possible. There are currently 80,000 people waiting for a Section 8 Housing Voucher. "The neighbors don't like to see the neighborhoods change, but change is going to happen, growth is going to occur. San Diego now is not producing enough housing to keep up with the rate of growth of the population," said Gentry. Miller and other neighbors have serious concerns about building on the land. "I don't know if they're necessarily opposed to affordable housing, I think they're just opposed to more development in an area that's already over-developed. In addition to just being an open space, it's a wetland," said Miller. The Housing Commission will be seeking developers for the project. They say the community will have several opportunities for input as the effort goes through the Planning Commission, Housing Commission, and City Council. 1527
