Along with the ornaments and strands of lights, two police officers in the 4th precinct of Minneapolis' Police Department added some unusual items to their lobby's Christmas tree: A collection of street trash, including packs of Newport cigarettes, a crumpled bag of Takis chips, a cup from a Popeyes fried chicken outlet, a can of Steel Reserve malt liquor and some yellow crime scene tape. On Friday, he vowed the officers responsible would be fired."Shifting the culture of the police department requires swift and decisive action," he said. "Termination is necessary -- both to discipline the officer and to send a clear message."A spokesman from the mayor's office has since walked back parts of that statement, acknowledging that the fate of the officers responsible will take some time to determine."Every day I work to bridge the divide between the police department and the community, as do so many others in our department," said Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo in a statement. ALABASTER, Ala. — A photographer in Alabama was able to capture the beauty of a rare yellow cardinal that is taking the internet by storm. Jeremy Black took the photograph of the rare yellow bird in Alabaster, Alabama.According to Geoffrey Hill, a bird curator at Auburn University in Alabama, the bird is a rare male northern cardinal that has a "one in a million" genetic mutation that makes its red feathers turn yellow. Additionally, the mutation is so rare, that only one is seen each year in the United States."This yellow cardinal displays a rare mutation causes the metabolic process to produce a different type of pigment than the typical red coloration," Black wrote on his Facebook page.Black says that he was able to photograph the yellow cardinal after his friend, Charlie Stephenson, noticed the bird at her feeder in January. According to National Geographic, on February 17, Black spent five hours in Stephenson's backyard with a camera in hand, hoping the beautiful bird would make a second appearance. "As soon as it landed, I was starstruck," Black told National Geographic. Almost two dozen people became trapped when a storm knocked over a large tree onto a detached garage, which collapsed. The victims were attending a child's birthday party, and had gone inside the garage when the storm started, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department."It literally sounded like a train coming down the tracks and I looked out the front door and I could see a funnel," said neighbor Dawn Redloff.Redloff describes the severe and sudden storm that hit her neighborhood in Pasadena Sunday afternoon, near Baltimore. Winds knocked down trees, power lines and blew out her front door and window.But nothing was as bad as her neighbor's home."It was heartbreaking," said Redloff.The Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials said a large tree fell on a detached garage during a child’s birthday party, injuring 19 and requiring major rescues."The guys were unreal, cutting the building apart, getting people out of there," said Redloff.When crews arrived, they found six people still trapped inside, all were removed within 45 minutes.According to the county, 19 adults and two children were injured and taken to four area hospitals.
