SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two UC San Diego Health workers have tested positive for COVID-19, officials with the medical system announced Saturday.UCSD Health said in a statement that the workers "are recuperating at home and doing well," officials said."Both infected health workers sought medical assessment after exhibiting key respiratory symptoms, and were tested," according to UCSD Health.University officials cite "exposure and infection in the community" as reasons for the workers contracting the virus, rather than from travel or a patient."UC San Diego Health has launched an extensive effort to identify any patients or health system colleagues who may have been in recent contact with either of the two health workers," officials said. The group operates three hospitals: UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla, and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center also in La Jolla. A public information official with UCSD Health said they are not disclosing which locations or duties the infected workers are assigned at this time.Stay with 10News for updates to this developing story. 1121

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Uber will remove all rental bikes and scooters from San Diego next week, the company said Thursday. The rideshare company, which expanded into rentals, will cease its two-wheeled operations Sept. 19. Uber will continue to operate in partnership with Naval Base San Diego and Naval Base Point Loma. “We agree with local elected officials in San Diego who’ve said current micromobility regulations foster an unsustainable operating environment, which is why we’re ending our operations as of today. We look forward to working with the city to develop more sensible regulations,” a company spokesperson told 10News. "This is simply a market correction in an oversaturated industry that jeopardizes the safety of San Diegans and visitors. I continue to call for a moratorium on electric scooters until we develop a fiscally responsible and well thought-out plan that priorities public and environmental safety," said City Councilwoman Barbara Bry.In May, the San Diego City Council implemented new regulations for dockless scooters as a way to increase public safety while also allowing the companies to stay in San Diego. Companies were required to pay a permit fee of about ,000 every six months, create corrals, and enforce a speed limit as low as 3 miles per hour in certain areas. The rules also banned parking scooters near schools, hospitals, or near Petco Park.Uber brought the red and black JUMP e-scooters and bikes into the San Diego market in fall 2018, offering free rides during the introductory period. The scooters are currently available in 13 U.S. cities, according to Uber’s website. JUMP bikes are available in 20 U.S. cities. “We plan to work with the city to help build sensible regulations in the near future and look forward to returning to San Diego in the future,” Uber officials said. 1836

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say officers made their second-largest meth bust along the southern border in history last week.On Oct. 9, officers stopped a driver at about 9:45 a.m. at the Otay Mesa commercial facility who was crossing with a tractor-trailer shipment manifested as medical supplies. The truck was referred to further inspection, where the truck was screened using an imaging system and canine officers.Officers detected irregularities in the rear of the trailer and say they found 1,816 packages comingled with medical supplies of spray bottles and pipette tools. CBP said those packages contained about 3,014 pounds of methamphetamine, 64 pounds of heroin, 29 pounds of fentanyl powder, and almost 37 pounds of fentanyl pills, worth an estimated .2 million. The meth seized in the vehicle stop is the second-largest meth bust in agency history, according to CBP."This massive seizure is testament of what law enforcement agencies can do when we combine forces – prevent over million worth of deadly drugs from entering our country; thus saving countless lives from addiction and overdose deaths," said DEA Special Agent in Charge John Callery. "DEA cherishes our great law enforcement partners in San Diego, especially those who work tirelessly to protect our nation’s borders. We will continue to work together to disrupt drug trafficking organizations at every opportunity we are given."The driver, a 47–year-old male Mexican citizen, was arrested and turned over to the joint custody of ICE, Homeland Security, and DEA to face criminal charges. 1611

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two competing plans are on the table to redevelop the Tailgate Lot a block from Petco Park into a mixed-use area with park space, retail and office, and housing. The City of San Diego has launched a virtual open house for residents to provide feedback on two plans to develop the Tailgate Lot in a mixed-use area. Residents have through Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, to give their feedback. One of the plans was developed by Brookfield Properties and the other between the San Diego Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital. Both plans call for a combination of office, retail, and residential space and open park space and parking.Brookfield Properties' plan calls for about 1.2 million square feet of mixed-use office and retail space, about 1,200 residential units, and 1.1 acres of park and community space. The plan also highlights developing a tailgate park, "bazaar" marketplace, and a gateway to public transit.Brookfield's plan also includes a culinary incubator for restaurant startups and makers, including 15 restaurant spaces and a community kitchen. The plan by the Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital also features about 1.35 million square feet of office space, 612 market rate and affordable housing units, 236,000 square feet of open space, and 1,600-space parking garage for games and ballpark events. The parking garage would also include a multi-use field on the roof for recreational activities. The plan says that the spaces will be shared with tenants when not in use for games and events. The Tailgate Lot property includes 15 parcels of land, or about 5.25 net acres, between K Street and Imperial Avenue and 12th Ave. and 14th St. The parking is currently leased to the Padres. The city's plan is to submit an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement to City Council in October or November 2020. The plans can be read here. 1870
