HOBE SOUND, Florida — For Rony Bottex, 65, fracturing his leg and using crutches is nothing compared to what could have happened on I-95 in Hobe Sound, Florida on Monday morning. "If he wasn't there, if the officer wasn't there, I'd be dead," said Bottex. Rony was involved in an accident on I-95. Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Mithil Patel, 31, was the first to respond and while he's talking to Rony?outside of the car, a van slammed into a car, sending it spinning in their direction.?"He saw the car come right to me and pushed me to the side and thank God I fall, but he's the one who got hurt for me," said Bottex. "He take the hit and pushed me out of the way." Trooper Patel was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center where he is now in good condition. Rony says he has not stopped praying for the brave trooper who he says nearly gave his own life to save Rony. "They do the jobs for you, not for them, and he was going to take the hit for me, he did," he said. Rony says thanks to Trooper Patel, he's still alive for his wife and six children. He now wants this stranger who saved him to be a part of his family too. "What I want to tell his family, I want to be with him as a family because people like this you never forget them," added Bottex. The trooper's father said the family has been overwhelmed with calls and support. Stand by for further information."Jim Hardman is a Desert Storm US Army veteran and a former police officer who teaches survival classes.In an active shooting, he says everyone should know three keywords: run, hide, fight.First: Run.Hardman says wherever you are, always know where the exit is."I walk into a store or a new business," he said, "and ask myself where can I get out?"Hear gunshots? Hardman says run if you can, without running into gunfire."If I decide to run, I move with a purpose," he said. "I'm not just running through the center or a room to try to get away."Second: Hide.Hardman says to look for a spot that might stop bullets."I position myself to where I've got that filing cabinet, that copier, something that's heavy."Hardman says never try to reason with someone already shooting. Statistics show you cannot stop him at that point."Once that active killing starts, that rationalization is out the door."Obviously, your best bet is to escape. 'Horse Museum' is the latest book by Dr. Seuss, launched Tuesday at UC San Diego's Geisel Library. The library sold copies of the book at a launch party in the Seuss room Tuesday. The book is about art, and helps kids of all sizes learn about art and museums. Lynda Claassen, the Director of Special Collections and Archives for the Geisel Library says the book is a treasure, found in a box by Audrey Geisel, Theodor's widow, in 2013. It was not a full book she discovered, merely a manuscript with storyboard pages. Using that manuscript, illustrator Andrew Joyner finished Seuss' work. Inside the book, there is horse artwork from greats like Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollack, as well as cameo appearances by familiar characters like the Cat in the Hat. And Claassen promises it won't be the last: "there is more to come. There is always more." Theodor Geisel died in 1991, and there have been other posthumous works published, including 2015's 'What Pet Should I Get?'His wife Audrey died in December 2018.
