As a result, chaos would erupt sooner or later in the financial sector.The editorial concludes that China should gradually liberalize its financial industry, because a sudden torrent of foreign capital would be undesirable. It calls for a prudent approach to financial liberalization that would yield a productive outcome as evidenced over the past three decades of gradual financial reform whereby more market competition has been encouraged and distressed loans have been effectively curbed. Such a policy has shielded China from being hit as severely by the current financial crisis and enabled it to rebound quicker than other advanced nations.

Its accessibility will be raised to 45 percent of the population in the coming five years, it said.There were 3.23 million websites running in China last year, which was 2,152 times that of 1997.Of all the netizens, 346 million used broadband and 233 million used mobile phones to access the Internet. BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Beijing on Thursday started to construct a new subway line that will run 47.7 km through the city.Beijing Subway Line No. 14 runs from west to northeast with 36 stops in three districts of Fengtai, Chongwen and Chaoyang, according to a spokesman with the Beijing Metro Transport Construction Management Company.The line is expected to cost 27.2 billion yuan (4 billion U.S. dollars) wand be completed in 2014. KABUL, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese hostages who have been held by Afghan militants for over three months were released Saturday, the Chinese embassy said here Sunday.Yin Juming, the embassy charge d'affaires, told Xinhua that the two Chinese nationals working with the China Railway 14 Bureau were set free by the militants in western Afghanistan's Faryab province.Zhang Fengqiang, an engineer, and Wu Yulin, a worker, were seized by militants who claimed to be Taliban insurgents on Jan. 16 enroute from the working site to the residence camp in the province, said the Chinese diplomat.The duo were awaiting the journey back to China to reunite with their families, he said.

JINAN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- A Hong Kong cargo ship sank off Weihai City, east China's Shandong Province, Sunday after a collision with a Liberian-registered freighter, rescuers said.All 46 crew members of the two vessels were safe after the accident at 5:23 a.m., the city's maritime safety bureau said in a statement.The accident could have occurred in foggy conditions at the time, said Li Zhiqiang, an official with the city's maritime safety bureauThe 23 Chinese crew of the Hong Kong-registered Bright Century and the 23 Indian crew of the Liberia-registered Sea Success had been rescued as of noon, he said.Water had flooded into the damaged prow of the Sea Success, but the vessel was still afloat.The bureau had dispatched a ship to shadow the vessel as it was still in negotiations with the owner about the cost of towing the ship to port.The bureau is investigating the cause of the accident.
