Supported by leaders of both nations, relations between the two militaries have been growing steadily while leaders of both militaries have maintained frequent contacts on bilateral and multilateral occasions. China-Africa cooperation is an important part of the South-South cooperation," said He Yafei, China's ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva.Addressing a forum on Africa's peace and development, He said China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has been always supporting and participating in peacekeeping operations in Africa.Since 1990, China has participated in 12 UN peacekeeping operations in Africa, providing more than 10,000 personnel. TAIPEI, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Experts from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan Wednesday started their second round of talks in Taipei to pave the way for a long-awaited economic deal that is expected to boost cross-Strait economic ties.The two-day meeting in Tashi, Taoyuan county, is expected to speed up the consultation process of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), which is intended to normalize mainland-Taiwan economic ties and bring the two economies closer.The two sides are expected to exchange views on operational and technological topics including the main content of the agreement and consultation arrangements in the future.The mainland side is composed of directors of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), experts and economic affairs officials.Tang Wei, director-general of the Ministry of Commerce's Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao affairs department, said such an agreement would further cross-Strait economic cooperation, and help the two sides cope with the impact of possible economic crises in the future and the increasingly competitive international market.

BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- China's vegetable prices will fall further with increasing supplies as temperatures continue to climb, the National Development and Reform Commission, the country's top economic planner, said Wednesday.Average retail prices for 15 kinds of vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplants, dropped by 10.15 percent in May from April, the NDRC said.Prices for some vegetables fell drastically when the peak supply season came by the end of May, it said.NDRC monitoring showed prices of cucumbers on May 26 averaged 4.04 yuan (59 U.S. cents) per kg, 22 percent down from a month earlier while green rape dropped 20.1 percent in price month on month to 7.82 yuan per kg.In China, food prices account for a third of the weighting in the consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of the country's inflation.China's CPI picked up in April, rising 2.8 percent year on year because of lower comparison base last year and rising food prices because of adverse weather.The government set a target to keep the full-year growth in the CPI at about 3 percent this year.

GENEVA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday asked the World Trade Organization to set up an expert panel to rule whether the European Union's antidumping duties on Chinese-made footwear violates global trade regulations.At a meeting of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body, the Chinese delegation reiterated that the EU's antidumping measure was inconsistent with related WTO agreements and it impaired China's benefits."China requests the DSB to establish a panel to ensure the protection of China's legitimate rights and benefits under the WTO agreements," the delegation said in a statement.The delegation said that it was taking the action after the latest consultations with the EU on March 31 failed to resolve China's concerns and "no mutually satisfactory solution could be reached."The delegation's statement also urged the 27-nation bloc to bring its legislation in line with WTO agrements and "to terminate the measure on Chinese footwear on account of their inconsistency with WTO rules."The EU said it regretted the step take by China and blocked the panel request. But according to the WTO's dispute settlement procedures, a panel request can be blocked only once, which means the panel would be established automatically if China makes a second request at a DSB meeting scheduled for next month.China first brought the dispute to the WTO on Feb. 4, which initiated a 60-day consultation period between the two sides.A panel request is the second step in the WTO's dispute settlement procedure following unsuccesful consultations in finding a resolution.
