Among the many guests who had their pictures taken with President Donald Trump at the White House's annual Hanukkah party last year were two Soviet-born businessmen from Florida, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman. In the picture, which Parnas posted on social media, he and Fruman are seen smiling alongside Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Rudy Giuliani, the President's personal lawyer. At one point during the party that night, Parnas and Fruman slipped out of a large reception room packed with hundreds of Trump donors to have a private meeting with the President and Giuliani, according to two acquaintances in whom Parnas confided right after the meeting.Word of the encounter in the White House last December, which has not been previously reported, is further indication that Trump knew Parnas and Fruman, despite Trump publicly stating that he did not on the day after the two men 898

A North Carolina college student has been arrested and charged after authorities found two guns in his dorm room and he reportedly confessed to plans to carry out a shooting.Paul Arnold Steber, a 19-year-old freshman at High Point University, faces two felony counts of weapons on campus or educational property and one count of making a threat of mass violence, High Point Police said. He's being held without bond for 10 days, during which time he must have a mental evaluation, police said.Steber's attorney did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.Steber, of Boston, is one of dozens of suspects arrested over mass attack threats since mass shootings this month in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. In the week after the shootings, the FBI got more than 38,000 tips, up from the typical 22,000 tips per week this year.Steber was arrested Tuesday after other students told school officials that Steber had two guns and ammunition in his dorm room, police and university officials said in news releases.Steber had a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun, police said.He confessed to having "a timeline to 'kill people,'" 1176

A suspect is in custody after he allegedly stabbed five people at a workplace in Tallahassee, Florida. The suspect, 41-year-old Antwann D. Brown, was arrested almost immediately after police arrived on the scene at Dyke Industries.Investigators say Brown is an employee of Dyke Industries. Police claim he clocked in at 8 a.m. local time. He quickly got into a verbal dispute and was asked to leave at 8:20.That when, according to police, he "spontaneously" stabbed a total of five employees with a folding knife.Tallahassee nterim Chief Steve Outlaw said that after Brown attacked, employees held Brown at bay by grabbing anything they could find in the office. When Brown ran away from the scene, arriving officers quickly apprehended him about a block away from Dyke Industries, 10 to 15 minutes after the first stabbing.Outlaw said it appeared Brown only sought out certain victims and had no pending employment issues at his job. At this time, police don't have a motive and don't believe the incident was related to the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks."You can't help but wonder, on the first flush when you hear that, is this related to the anniversary? You just can't help but wonder that," Outlaw said. "Very, very sad occasion... But fortunately, from what we can tell, there was no relationship to the anniversary."Police say that Brown has a prior record connected to a violent incident in Georgia, but indicated that the incident was not recent. According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Brown's criminal history includes drug dealing and grand theft dating back to 1996. He was released from prison in July 2009.Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare says one of the victims is in serious condition, two are in fair condition, and two others are in good conditionThis story was originally published by 1834

A migrant shelter in Tornillo, Texas that's housed thousands of children may close next month.A tent-like facility in Texas that houses unaccompanied migrant children may close next month after they are all released to parents or sponsors in the US. That's according to an official who spoke with several news outlets, including CNN and CBS News. The migrant shelter is located near the Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry and operated by BCFS, a nonprofit that operates health and human services programs. The shelter opened this past summer with a capacity of about 300 people. Now, it reportedly houses between 2,400 to 2,800 children. The official told news outlets the facility will no longer accept children and will close after the last child is released to either a sponsor or another facility run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The federal government's contract with BCFS will expire on December 31st, and the source says the non-profit does not plan to extend it.An exact closing date for the facility has not yet been announced.
